Softball All-Stars: Alexa Cash 2010 Player of the Year

Softball All-Stars

Alexa Cash

Alexa Cash

Here is a very lengthy list if the softball all-stars for Southern Arizona.

First, I have it broken down by conference and then what I call “Dream Teams.” Some of the conferences were limited to one team and quite a few were expanded to have a first and second team listed.

For the Dream Teams, I have placed athletes on teams that I would pick if I were coaching. Some of the players may have been moved to other positions on the Dream Teams to make room for their talents (such as Benson’s Kayla Haro who I placed on the second team as an outfielder).

The obvious player of the year is Cienega pitcher Alexa Cash with her coach Eric Tatham as coach of the year. I have stayed away from “honorable mention” categories because the “small” school athletes deserve recognition. With the realignment proposed by the AIA, this may be the last time some of these schools will be able to show success and that is one major drawback from the plan.

Some conferences have multiple coaches of the year because their accomplishments speak for themselves.

This is a list of teams I have personally seen this year: St. Augustine, Tanque Verde, Pusch Ridge, San Manuel, Benson, Willcox, Empire, Safford, Santa Cruz, Cholla, Douglas, Sahuarita, Santa Rita, Cienega, Marana, Canyon del Oro, Catalina Foothills, Sabino, Buena, Ironwood Ridge, Mountain View, Rincon, Salpointe, Sunnyside and Tucson. I have also coached and seen many of these players from age 8 and I have also known some of the baseball players since they were in grade school also.

Baseball will come out in a few days.

Please take a moment and look the lists over and feel free to comment but please do not attack players or their skill level. Sorry about spellings or nicknames.

  • Dave Seville

    Andy,
Thank you for the outstanding job you have done. We have enjoyed every story and can tell how much you care about these kids. Please keep up the great work and know that you are appreciated.
    Dave, Claire, and Alvin

  • lancers4life

    I second that Dave!

  • Thomas

Andy, how can you bypass Adrienne Machiche as your player of the year she had 4 runs scored on her in the state tournament Haro had over 10.  Adrienne beat Haro 2 out  of 3 times and won the state championship.  What is your reasoning I mean I like Haro but give credit where its due.  Is Haro your relative or something?

    • Andy Morales

nope, just an editing error.  Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

  • Buena Parent

    Mo knows softball!
Thank you very much Andy for all your work and dedication! I’ve enjoyed reading your articles all season!

I see 1st and 2nd teams for 3A, 4A-1 and 4A-2 but not for either 5A class? Any reason?
