Cincinnati Reds Area Code Baseball Tryouts
by Andy Morales on Jun. 13, 2010, under Sports2010 Area Code Baseball
The Cincinnati Reds hosted the first tryout of the year Saturday at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
Elite high school baseball players from Arizona were invited to try out for the exclusive showcase team – a team that saw 21 of its 28 players from last summer get drafted.
In order to attend the Area Code Baseball Games and Area Code Baseball Tryouts, players must be invited.
According to the developers of the program, the process begins with an invitation to a tryout and invitations are sent based upon recommendations made to those MLB scouts in charge of one of the eight teams. The process to make it on an Area Code Baseball roster is difficult, but it is a rewarding experience. There are approximately 3,000 invitations mailed out each year, and a total of approximately 200 players are selected.
These were the Tucson players rumored to be at the tryouts last Saturday:
Catalina Foothills
Preston Jamison
Reid Hunter
Pen Nakazato
Sabino
Dylan Rugerroli
Nick Chapman
Lucas Leifeld
Salpointe
Joseph Serrano
Ryan Penaflor
