Alec Beyersdorf of Catalina Foothills & Ryan Penaflor of Salpointe come up big for 520 Elite at the US Baseball 16U Championships

The 520 Elite took their first pool game Saturday morning 6-0 over the Austin Wings.
SABA 520 Elite came from behind to win 7-4 over Team Anderson 2013 in second pool game Sunday morning.
With the score 4-1 at the top of the 4th, Alec Beyersdorf had 3 RBI triple down the line to tie the score 4-4.
At the top of the 5th, Ryan Penaflor had a lead off single with 1 out. 2nd batter walked to have runners at 1st and 2nd. Penaflor stole 3rd but the catcher threw underneath the 3rd baseman’s glove giving the opening for Penaflor to score 5-4.
Trevor Griffin came in relief to pitch 3 scoreless innings and the save. Kyle Petty started the game and got the win.
OTHER SCORING PLAYS:
Zachary Taylor had a 2 RBI single at the top of the 7th to get some insurance runs.
Joseph Serrano had a double RBI at the top of the 3rd to grab a 1-0 lead.
Next up at 2PM: San Diego Show Black. There will be re-seeding after 3 games then schedules will be out later Sunday tonight.

According to USA Baseball, the 16U Championships helps the organization identify players for the National Team. The event is held in two regions – East (Florida) and West (Arizona) – and 72 teams compete in each region. USA Baseball representatives and scouts select the top players from each region and from there the National Team is chosen.
