Future golf star headed to Salpointe.
Krystal turned 14 in May and the young golfer has won seven of the nine events she has played in.
She won her first event at the Southern Arizona Junior Championship in February by eight shots. She then went to the Thunderbird Invitational in March where she tied for sixth place.
Quihuis saw what competition was like and told her father that she hated to lose after Thunderbird, “I’m gonna have to work harder,” she told him. “These girls are good.
Her hard work paid off as she won the Tucson Conquistadores Spring Classic held at Silverbell in early April.
Quihuis graduated from St. Ambrose in late May and her graduation ceremonies threatened to get in the way of another tournament – the Yuma City Junior Championship.
Her family had already decided that Yuma would be out of the question so their daughter could take part in an important graduation event but Krystal had other ideas.
“Why can’t I do both?”
They arrived in Yuma at 2:00 a.m. the next morning and were at the golf course for her 7:30 tee time.
She won the Yuma tournament.
Krystal also came in first at the Willie Low Invitational in Phoenix and at the Callaway Junior World Qualifier held at Rio Rico.
The Callaway Junior World will be held at the Sycuan Resort in San Diego from July 12-15.
She came in first at the Tucson City Junior Championship in June while shooting her first under par round at Randolph North.
She then went on to place fifth at the Phoenix City Junior Championship held in late June.
She won the Thunderbird Junior Classic and became the first alternate at the USGA Girls Junior Championship Qualifier, outscoring a few high school stars along the way:
