by Andy Morales on Jul. 19, 2010, under SportsSalpointe to host Special Olympics skill camp Tuesday, July 20.
Special Olympians will take part in the camp coached by the Salpointe football team. In addition, the local Special Olympics cheer squad will receive lessons from the Lancer dancers and spirit line.
The event will take place on the football field from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
This camp is part of the “Games for the Greater Good” community service project initiated by Salpointe in 2009 to raise awareness for local and national causes.
Football coach Dennis Bene initiated the project after his team was hit with a one year suspension from state playoffs as a way to show his players there is more to life than a game of football.
Salpointe will honor four causes this year: Military Appreciation, September 3; Special Olympics, September 24; Teacher Appreciation, October 15; Boys and Girls Clubs of America, October 22.
