The AIA has released it’s All-Star teams for Division IV soccer. D-IV soccer is completed in the fall for the smaller schools so that those athletes can be available for basketball in the winter time.

The Desert Christian boys finished the season as a 2 seed and made it to the semifinal round. The coaches chose Desert Christian coach Steve Lord as the state coach of the year.

I have listed the All-State selections below along with the Southern Arizona All-Stars that have been selected by the coaches with a few extra names that I have added to the list for our TucsonCitizen.com All-Star list.

Again, Lord is the Southern Arizona coach of the year and his goalie Gabe Fennema earned player of the year honors from the coaches and from TucsonCitizen.com.

A few teams play coed in the fall under the banner of “Boys,” hence the girls listed under the “Boys” section.

The girls of Desert Christian also earned a 2 seed under Mark Harting. They made it to the semifinal round.

I agreed almost 100% with the coaches on their selections for the Boys but I am a little disappointed with their Girls selections.

For instance, Desert Christian swept River Valley in their two head-to-head matches for a total of 7 goals to 1 yet six players from River Valley made the All-State team compared to only one for Desert Christian.

For my money, the whole Desert Christian team deserved more recognition than what they were given. Sara Boice is the TucsonCitizen.com Southern Arizona player of the year and her coach Harting is the coach of the year.

This division will be added to the rest of the soccer all-stars after the winter season.
