Tucson High won the state’s first two baseball championships under the legendary “Pop” McKale in 1912 and 1913 but his move to the University of Arizona opened the door for a few other coaches to surpass his two titles.

Badger coaches Andy Tolson won seven titles and Hank Slagle won 10 but you would have to travel to St. David to find Southern Arizona’s most accomplished coach.

The legendary Jim Crawford coached the small-town school to 15 of the school’s 16 championships. Oh, and he also coached the school to four football tiles along the way.

He won his first in 1965 and his last 37 years later.

The other notable coach with multiple titles is former Nogales coach James “Viejo” Concannon with seven from 1951-1971.

Howell “Hal” Eustice is one of two coaches to win with different teams. He won a 3A title with San Manuel in 1963 and three 5A titles with Sahuaro from 1973-1982.

Kent Winslow won a title with Santa Cruz in 1982, one with CDO in 2000 and one with Prescott in 2002. He also made two title appearances with Salpointe in 1996 and 1997.
