While the boys are playing baseball at Reid Park, the girls will be playing softball on the far northwest side in the CDO Dorado Classic.

Division-I Buena, Mountain View and Marana are participating along with D-II foes Amphi, Catalina Foothills, Cholla, Palo Verde, Pueblo, Sahuarita, CDO, Ironwood Ridge and Sahuaro.

D-III Empire is making its first appearance at the Dorado Classic.

Some notable players include three of the best catchers in the state beginning with Ironwood Ridge senior standout Robin Landrith, who has already signed with Baylor, and sophomores Sammy Nettling of CDO and Amanda Nicholas of Sahuaro.

Besides being a strong catcher, Nicholas has the added dimension of being the top student in her class.

CDO features First Team All-American Kayla Bonstrom (Stanford) but the favorite this year has to fall to either Ironwood Ridge or Sahuaro depending on how all that talent comes together in terms of chemistry.

Ironwood Ridge and Sahuaro are on the same side of the bracket, however.

Salpointe and Tucson High will travel to Phoenix to play in the Red Mountain tourney.
