James “Doc” Van Horne won 13 of Tucson High’s 18 state championships. Only Bill Taylor (11) of Bisbee, Herman Andrews (11) of Safford and Jerry Lee (11) of Benson have come close to his number.
Frank Sladek of ASDB had four trophies, easily the second best in the Tucson area.
