It’s not just a pair of victories for Canyon del Oro, it’s a victory for women and men from Southern Arizona who need screening and life-saving treatment for breast cancer.
CDO JV baseball player Colton Botkin’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when he was just four years old. Deborah passed away four years later and that’s when Colton began his own Race for the Cure team to honor her memory, survivors and others who have passed away.
Colton was awarded the Pink Saguaro trophy Saturday afternoon at Reid Park for his efforts this year in raising over $6,000.
The Canyon del Oro team, called “Pink Dorados,” went from about 30 members last year to over 130 this year and they raised over $3,000. The combined totals earned them the trophy for winning the “High School Challenge.”
The team took a school bus from Oro Valley to the event and then returned afterwards for a pancake brunch at James Kriegh Park, located next to CDO.
