With one third of the regular season remaining, Sahuaro, Ironwood Ridge, Pueblo and Salpointe are in a position to get both an automatic bid and a first-round bye to the state playoffs. They also appear to be too far out in front to be caught by either Tucson or Cholla, although both teams have games remaining against the top four.

Tucson and Cholla are also in hunt for a bye if they can sneak into the top eight.

Tucson, Cholla, Cienega, Canyon Del Oro, Catalina Foothills and Catalina are in the mix for one of the 12 at-large bids.

Flowing Wells and Buena are within striking distance for an at-large bid.

Playoffs: 24 teams. Top four from each Section receives an automatic bid. The remaining 12 spots come from power points. The top eight receive a first-round bye.

The first two rounds will be played at the site of one of the top eight seeds and will consist of a double-header on Saturday, May 5.

Seeds 9-24 will play their matches at noon and then the winners will go up against the top eight seeds at 2:30 pm.

The third round will be played at the site of the highest seed to come out of the second round and will be played at 7 pm on Tuesday, May 8.

Gilbert High School will host the semifinal (May 10) and championship (May 12) rounds. Unfortunately, Gilbert is currently one of the top ranked teams so they are in a position to be able to play at home until they lose.
