Former Ironwood Ridge (and Club Dinamo) setter Michaela Christiaansen had a very productive freshman season at Pepperdine.
First, the Waves were within one set of making it to the Indoor Final Four last December but they fell to top-ranked USC 3-2 (25-16, 26-28, 19-25, 25-19, 15-10).
Christiaansen recorded 14 digs in the loss.
Then, Pepperdine (17-0) won the inaugural Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championship on April 28 by defeating Long Beach State in the finals, 5-0.
Christiaansen and her pairs teammates Emily Cook won their match 21-16, 22-20 over Janisa Johnson and Tyler Jackson to help the Waves take it all.
Christiaansen was part of Pepperdine’s first national championship won by a women’s team.
According to Pepperdine, the CBS Sports Network will televise portions of the competition in two hour-long specials. Part 1 of their coverage will air beginning on Wednesday, June 6 and Part 2 will begin airing on Wednesday, June 13.
