Desert Thunder Gold wins national championship

Erin Satterfield came up with a huge double in the bottom of the 5th inning against So Cal Athletics to send Desert Thunder to the ASA Gold National Championship series Saturday morning in Oklahoma City.
Satterfield plated Becca Ziegler and Morgan McKeever to give Desert Thunder their 2-0 victory margin. Kaitlin Wilson took to the circle and held the Athletics to only three hits.
The win meant a championship showdown with Texas Impact Saturday afternoon with Texas having to beat Desert Thunder twice in order to win it all since they were coming up though the elimination bracket.
They almost pulled it off after beating Desert Thunder 6-0 in the first game. The two met again for the “If Game” where Wilson pitched another great game to preserve a slim 2-1 championship victory.
Darcy Taylor came up with a 2-out double in the top of the 3rd inning to score McKeever and Satterfield. Texas scored a run in the bottom of the sixth but they could not get anything else as Wilson struck out the last two batters of the game to seal the victory.
Robin Landrith led Desert Thunder with a .529 batting average for the tournament and Ziegler came up with 5 RBIs. Wilson won 4 games with 12 strikeouts and had an incredible 0.23 ERA to earn what must have been MVP honors at the highest level of competition.
Wilson is headed to Miami of Ohio and Taylor is headed to the Univeristy of Arizona.
