Courtney Pitts named Player of the Week

Courtney Pitts (Catalina) was selected by the ACCAC on Monday for her play during the week of September 24-30. Pitts helped the Aztecs finish 2-1 after playing a total of 15 sets in three matches which included wins over Yavapai College and Scottsdale Community College. Pitts finished with 92 digs and four aces for the week.
Pitts joined teammates Kami Humphrey (Canyon del Oro) and Cheryl Montague (Academy of Tucson), who’ve previously been recipients of the award this season.
Volleyball match between NM State and UTEP served as a reunion of Southern Arizona standouts
UTEP’s victory over NM State on September 27 was the first at their home since 2001, former Cienega outside hitter Jacqueline Cason recorded 7 kills for the Miners.
UTEP outlasted NM State in 5 sets (22-25, 25-14, 15-25, 25-20, 15-11).
Coming up big for the Aggies were former Catalina Foothills middle Desiree Scott and Canyon del Oro outside Stephanie Ziegler. Scott recorded 14 kills and had 4 blocks while Ziegler had 18 digs.
Also playing for NM State was former Valley Union middle Gwen Murphy.
Former Cienega runner Nikki Regalado finished in 7th at the ACCAC Championships
The Pima cross country teams participated in the ACCAC Championships last Friday at the Glen Lakes Golf Course in Glendale.
The women’s team finished in 2nd place with a score of 61 points. Central Arizona College came in first with a team score of 22. Jamie Shrader (Flagstaff) was the top Pima finisher with a time of 19 minutes and 27 seconds which gave her 5th place.
Nikki Regalado (Cienega) took 7th place with a time of 19:42. Shrader and Regalado were named to the All-ACCAC Conference team.
The men’s team finished 5th in the standings with a score of 127. Central Arizona was 1st with 25 points. Tyler Stamp (Sabino) was the top Pima finisher with a time of 26:53 which gave him 23rd place while Cruz Rodriguez (Empire) finished 28th at 27:26.
