Sunnyside defensive back Dominic Martinez has been selected to play in the inaugural 2013 FBU International All-Star Games, taking place from January 1-5, 2013 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

“Martinez has impressed at camp as well as Top Gun. His speed when running routes makes it extremely tough for linebackers and safeties to match up with him. What we didn’t know was how good of a defensive back he is, and we see him there at the next level,” said Erik Richards, FBU National Director of Scouting.

The FBU International All-Star Games feature top athletes selected from FBU North America and FBU International camps held from September 2011 to September 2012.

Each athlete was selected based on their performance at a camp, as well as playing footage, judged by the FBU committee of former NFL players and coaches. FBU has reviewed more than 200 Canadian athletes, 750 European athletes, and 1000 U.S. athletes in the pursuit to create these first-ever FBU International All-Star Games.

The FBU International All-Stars are being selected not only for their outstanding performance on the field but also for their accomplishments and dedication in the classroom. Paired with his accomplishments on the field, Martinez boasts a GPA of 3.5.

The inaugural games will feature more than 160 U-19 football athletes comprising the rosters to five teams: Europe, Canada/Montreal, Canada/BC, Mexico and United States. Additionally, FBU will select 25 coaches that participated in FBU International and North American coaching clinics to lead the all-star teams.

Sunnyside is currently 5-2 and will be playing at Yuma Cibola (4-3) tonight. besides playing defense, Martinez is the Blue Devils top rusher with 469 yards on 34 attempts for 13.79 yards a carry. He also leads the team with 10 touchdowns.

Martinez is second on the team with 50 tackles.

Good head on his shoulders and some impressive stats for young Mr. Martinez. Looks like Dominic will be playing on quite a stage at the FBU All-Star Games. Any prospects for television coverage of the Games? Wonder if Coach Rodriguez & Co. have Dominic on the radar? Would be something if the kid were to follow in the Holt, Horton, Adams, Scurlock tradition. Wish him continued success, both on the field and in the classroom, wherever he decides to go. Thanks for the story Andres. Being up in the High Country, I really look forward to these updates on my alma mater. SS-HS! Go Blue!!
