Division IV Soccer Playoffs setby Andy Morales on Oct. 21, 2012, under Sports
The Division IV soccer playoff schedule has been set with the Desert Christian girls earning a 2 seed and the Desert Christian boys getting the top seed.
The boys (19-1, 12-0) will get to host a second round match against the winner of 8 Benson (12-7-1) and 9 Willcox (8-6-2) on Saturday, October 27. No word as to where that match will be held. The Eagles typically play their home matches at Udall Park.
Unfortunately, all Southern Arizona boys teams are in the same quadrant but it will guarantee a semifinal match.
Team representative Carol Brandon sent in this update form their final home match against Phoenix Country Day that clinched a top seed as Ben Brandon earned a hat trick in the win:
Tonight was the final home game of the season for the DC Eagles as well as Homecoming and Senior Night! They hosted Phoenix Country Day in what started out to look like a very interesting game.
Both teams were playing fast and aggressive for the first 10 minutes. Then Desert seemed to settle in and start to take over the game. Ryan Barents started the scoring with a great shot after an assist from Ben Brandon. Then two minutes later, Brandon scored with an assist from Allen Bradley.
Brandon scored again on a long pass from Keeper Gabe Fennema. The last goal of the half came off an assist from Caleb Fisher to Bradley. Desert led at halftime 4-0. Then just two minutes into the second half, Desert earned a penalty kick after rough play from PCD’s keeper.
Brandon was able to score the PK and complete his hat trick. The final goal came off another assist from Bradley to Barents. It was a great night for the seniors and at the end of the game all 10 seniors were on the field at once.
The Desert Christian girls (13-2-1, 9-2) played most of their season with less that 11 girls on their roster.
Still, the team managed to stay in the mix to earn their 2 seed. Gaining little respect, the Eagles will have to travel for their first round match to the Phoenix area to take on 7 seed Camp Verde even though top seed Blue Ridge and 3 seed Round Valley get to host their first matches.
4 seed River Valley has to travel to what amounts to a home match against 5 seed Snowflake in Flagstaff.
Not sure what the reason was for having Desert Christian and River Valley travel even though they earned higher seeds but that’s how the brackets are set up and it’s unfortunate.
