The swim and dive championships took place Friday and Saturday at the Skyline Aquatic Center in Mesa.

Catalina Foothills senior Jason Alentado was the lone state champion on the boys side.

 

Alentado won the 100 Butterfly with a time of 49.97. His time was just shy of the automatic All-American standard (49.79) but it put him well within the provisional category for All-American consideration.

“My 200 IM wasn’t what I wanted and I didn’t have a good race but I turned it around later on for my 100 fly with a great time and became a state champion which is awesome,” explained Alentado.

“I also got the pool record in the 100 fly which is a huge accomplishment.”

Alentado finished in 4th place in the 200 IM but he earned his third individual championship of his career on Saturday.

The Salpointe boys finished in second place and Walden Grove junior Trey Cashion took a pair of second place finishes in the 100 and 200 Freestyle races.

Matt Lujan, Matthew Kautz and Matt House joined Alentado to earn a third place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Lujan added a third place finish in the 100 Back.

Daniel Brauer, Colin Brust, JC Balserak and Billy Early paced Salpointe to third place finish in the 200 Free Relay with Early taking third in the 100 Free.

Sylas Cole (St. Gregory) took third in the 100 Fly and Lawrence Muldoon (Salpointe) finished in third in the 500 Free.
