Green Fields senior guard Olivia Snyder averaged 25 points a game last year to help lead the Griffins to a 26-4 record and a spot in the Division IV quarterfinals.

Snyder scored 30 or more points five times last year and she did it again Tuesday night in the marquee game of the Boyd Baker Small School Invitational held at Green Fields.

Snyder poured in 23 points and Kya Coletta added 9 to help Green Fields build a 33-23 lead at halftime over Tombstone. Green Fields did have a 24-10 lead in the first half but Tombstone was able to cut it down thanks to the hot shooting of Rachel Cummings.

Cummings hit three 3-pointers in the opening half to keep Tombstone in the game.

Cummings hit another 3-pointer in the second half but she fouled out with 7:36 left in the game. Jalyssa Rodriguez came up big with 10 points in the second half and Tombstone was able to cut the lead to within three points twice.

Snyder spent the end of the game camped out on the free throw line and Green Fields was able to hold off Tombstone to win 57-50.

Snyder finished with 30 points and Coletta had 16. Tombstone was led by 16 from both Cummings and Rodriguez.

Earlier, the Tombstone and Patagonia boys were knotted up at 38-38 but Tombstone’s Mikey Skiles was inexplicably intentionally fouled in the back court with 4.1 seconds left in the game and he sank one free throw for the win.

Skiles finished with 13 points and Patagonia’s Chris Holt scored 16 in the loss.

The Tombstone girls held off Tanque Verde 44-41 in the next game despite Caitlin Wyss leading all scorers with 19 points. Wyss was almost unstoppable in the game but the play of Cummings (11 points) and Marissa Altermariano (12) proved too much in the end.

The Green Fields boys built a 17-4 lead early on only to have Patagonia go on a 18 to 5 run to tie it 22-22 at the half. Holt scored 9 points and Jorge Martinez added 8 for Patagonia in the half

The teams went back and forth in the second half but TJ Clark scored 15 and John Lazzeroni scored 16 to win 49-42.
