Robert Medrano leads all scorers again but Flowing Wells beats Pueblo 71-36
by Andy Morales on Dec. 13, 2012, under SportsRobert Medrano’s stats are not readily available but the junior shooting guard from Pueblo is tearing up the nets at a reported 29 points per game average – putting him at the top of Arizona. Unfortunately, his pure shooting form has not translated into wins for the Warriors who are sitting at 1-10 after their 71-36 loss at Flowing Wells Thursday night.
Flowing Wells (8-7) sprinted out to 23-11 lead after the first period and 41-21 at the half thanks to a barrage of 3-pointers and a nonstop press by the Caballeros.
The team shot 8-12 from beyond the arc in the first half (including a miss at the buzzer) with Jesus Campa making two in a row early, Ishmael Romero making two, Moises Apodaca making two and Andrew Belew and Daniel Granillo making one each.
Still, Medrano led all scorers at the half with 12 points even though he missed a portion of the first quarter after he was tripped up on a layup early.
Flowing Wells cooled off a bit from 3-point land and finished 11-18 with another last-second miss after the third quarter. Pueblo could not keep pace and fell further back.
It will be interesting to see if Medrano can keep up the scoring streak as the season goes on and he appears to be handling the double teams so far but one player cannot do it all.
Medrano finished with 21 points to lead all scorers and his teammates Aaron Flores (6) and Brandon Garcia (5) pitched in but Flowing Wells finished with a more balanced scoring ledger.
Campa and Apodaca had 12 each, Romero had 10, Granillo had nine, Belew and Antonio Romero had seven, Armando Sample had six and Tyler Puckett finished with five.
Flowing Wells travels to Amphitheater on Friday night and Pueblo hosts Cienega.
