Todd Mayfield returns to Palo Verde

Todd Mayfield met with the Palo Verde football team yesterday after retiring from the program in 2009. Mayfield is a 2012 inductee into the Palo Verde Hall of Fame and a 2011 inductee into the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame.

He has spent the past two years as a volunteer and JV coach at Sabino High School. Prior to retirement, Coach Mayfield was the Titans’ coach for 12 (1989-2009) years amassing a 92-45-0 (.672) record.

Coach Mayfield is best known for the “We Believe” Palo Verde Football State Championship in 2005. He was the 2005 Football Coach of the Year. In 2005 the Titans had a record of 11-3 compiling 19 interceptions – allowing only 182 points – and recording 4 shut-outs according to Palo Verde’s athletic director Bart Peterson.

“I’m extremely excited to be back at Palo Verde and with the staff we have assembled, I know Palo Verde will be successful again.” stated Coach Mayfield.
Coach Mayfield also coached Girls Track and Field and won the Regional Championship in 2002.
