It’s championship Saturday for eight teams connected to Southern Arizona.

The sectional tournaments are winding down with Catalina Foothills and Salpointe battling for the boys D-I sectional crown and Desert Christian will take on Ray in D-IV.

Rio Rico and Benson were eliminated at the D-III sectionals so no Southern Arizona teams survived in that division.

Catalina Foothills knocked off Sahuaro in the semifinal round on Friday night and Salpointe pulled off a minor upset by beating Nogales.

The Desert Christian boys outlasted Duncan 51-49 and St. Gregory was defeated by Ray in the other semifinal held at Cienega. Ray is located in Kearny.

In girls action, Flowing Wells and CDO will play in the D-II championship at Amphi and Safford will play Thatcher in the D-III final to be tentatively scheduled for Cholla although it would be smart to let them play closer to home.

The Desert Christian girls will take on Fort Thomas in the D-IV final at Cienega.
