AAU Basketball: Tucson Rattlers tryouts

The Tucson Rattlers is one of Southern Arizona’s premier AAU basketball organizations for young talent. Some of their alumni include Darian Saunders (Missouri), Taneka Rubin (Florida A&M), Keyondra White (Adams State) and future Pima CC players Melody McLaughlin, Julia Cooper and Brittany West.
Other noteworthy athletes in their program: Hailey Jones, Gabby Banales, Shalise Fernander, Sydni Stallworth and Gabrielle Courtney.
Pima assistant coach Chris Klassen is the head coach of the club team and he is assisted by Katie Klassen and Abby Maas.
Practices begin on Wednesday, March 6 to prepare for tournaments such as the Nike Oasis, MSN West Coast Championhsips and the Elite Oktoberfest.
Chris and his wife Katie began the club in 2008. “We began the team because there were a lot of great girls basketball players around the city but Tucson was far behind other cities,” explained Chris.
The club focuses on one 17U Elite team and they have produced 10 championships out of the 18 they have been a part of since 2008 according to Klassen.
