Over 600 4th and 5th graders from the Amphitheater School District converged on Canyon del Oro High School for the 34th Annual ‘Everybody Wins’ Track Meet Friday afternoon.

Events included a mile run, 400 meter run, 200 meter run as well as the 100 and 50 meter dashes. Hurdles were run on the track and on the infield grass. Students also took part in field events such as the running long jump, shot put and softball throw.

The district also showcased adaptive events for children with special needs. That portion of the meet is always a crowd favorite. Another popular event is the shuttle relay and the district added a special relay run with the physical educators from the 14 schools taking part along with Mesa Verde principal Foster Hepler.

The Amphitheater School District, through the guidance of Superintendent Patrick Nelson and the Governing Board, have used this event as part of their effort to show their long-running support for elementary physical education and health. Governing Board President Susan Zibrat was also in attendance.

Schools taking part included Copper Creek, Coronado K-8, Donaldson, Harelson, Holaway, Keeling, Mesa Verde, Nash, Painted Sky, Prince, Rillito, Rio Vista, Walker and Wilson K-8.
