The Tucson High Badger Softball Invitational enters the final day of pool play Friday at Cherry Field.

The invite began on Wednesday with a short schedule and moved to a full day of games on Thursday. One of the 12 games played on Thursday involved Palo Verde and Desert View.

Desert View has been coached by Pima County Sports Hall of Fame member Bert Otero since 1985 and Palo Verde is coached by their second-year coach Mario Gastellum.

Gastellum transferred over from Cholla a couple of years ago where he had several league contenders and he has continued to bring his reliable instruction and coaching methods to Palo Verde. The Titans are young and mostly inexperienced but the evidence of working on the game correctly through practice is more than evident.

Desert View was led by bat of Gabriela Trejo and the arm of pitcher Reese Ramirez.

Trejo went 3 for 3 with two doubles and a 3-run home run to go along with her five RBIs. Ramirez threw a 1-hitter with 8 strike outs in the game-shortened four inning game as Desert View went on to win 17-0.

Centerfielder Alyssa Fallwell hit a single for Palo Verde in the bottom of the first inning but the team would only get two other runners on with Angela Gonzalez reaching on two Desert View errors.

Bailey Benson went 3-4 with a double and 2 RBIs, Maya Garcia went 3-4 with a double and 2 RBIs and Odalis Orduno had an RBI double as did Ramirez.

Bracket play begins on Saturday.
