2013 Willie Williams Classicby Andy Morales on Mar. 16, 2013, under Sports
March 14-16: Roy P. Drachman Stadium
The Heptathlon may not be part of the Arizona high school track and field competition schedule but the 7-event contest is what will be taking Salpointe senior Alyssa Thompson to Wake Forest next year.
Thompson showed off several of her skills over the last few days at the Willie Williams Classic held at Roy P. Drachman Stadium. She won the 100 meter hurdles (15.01), the long jump (18-00.25) and she broke the stadium time in the 300 meter hurdles that has been held since 1985. The previous best was 42.67 but Thompson ran a 42.62.
Former ASU volleyball standout Christy Nore was the previous record holder when she ran for Scottsdale Chaparral.
Thompson took second in the high jump (5-04) to Emily Gerard of Catalina Foothills.
“Every day is a new day,” Thompson said when asked about how she will maintain her high goals for herself since he has been successful early on. “I hope to be getting better times and marks and not take anything for granted. I think it was a great week for our team.”
Thompson was also recruited by Arizona, Arizona State and NAU.
