Bracket schedule all set for Chris Moon Memorialby Andy Morales on Mar. 27, 2013, under Sports
Pusch Ridge played a double header on the second day of the Chris Moon Memorial…sort of. Their game scheduled for late Tuesday night against Cholla began at 8 pm as planned but it was suspended with Pusch Ridge winning 11-6 with two outs in the top of the sixth inning due to a mishap with the automatic sprinkler system.
It was 11:20 pm and it was decided to have the two teams finish their game on Tuesday night after each played their scheduled games set for 5 pm against other opponents. Cholla went on to lose to Ralston Valley (Colorado) 11-6 and Pusch Ridge fell to Rancho (Nevada) 13-1.
Pusch Ridge went up 1-0 on Rancho in the top of the second inning but they gave up seven unearned runs and nine total in the bottom half of the inning and they found it difficult to recover from there.
Jake Frithsen singled to left field with one out and then Phillip Tanner followed with another hit but Frithsen was unable to advance to third base. Chad Willis came up and blasted a shot to right field and Frithsen was thrown out at home trying to score from second base by a great throw by Bryce Harrell.
A wild pitch brought in Oliver Harris from third (running for Tanner) but Rancho pitcher Jose Verdugo picked up a strikeout to end the inning.
Ryan Penny was on the mound for Pusch Ridge and he held Rancho to two earned runs in the bottom of the second but the Lions committed three errors to extend the inning and Rancho sent 13 batters to plate. Rancho would go on a score four more in the bottom of the fifth to end the game after five innings, 13-1.
Keifer Mclendon blasted a three-run homer to end the game for Rancho.
The Pusch Ridge players moved over to field two to finish their suspended game with Cholla and they jumped out ahead of that game with four more runs to go up 15-6 entering the bottom of the sixth. Cholla was not finished and they put up six runs of their own to close the gap to 15-12 but time had expired and Pusch Ridge picked up the win.
There will be a team banquet on Thursday night with scheduled speakers Marsha Moon, Edgar Soto and Jerry Stitt.
