Former Ironwood Ridge champion swimmer Daniel Bleyl swam almost 400 yards to help save two stranded kayakers in the Hudson River Wednesday night.
Bleyl, a freshman cadet at West Point, along with fellow freshman cadet Sam Mo reportedly heard calls for help around 10 pm and both treaded water for about 20 minutes once they reached the stranded kayakers while a third freshman cadet, Pierre Archambeau went for help.
The West Point Military Police and Fire Department came to the rescue after being notified by Archambeau. All three cadets swim for Army.
Bleyl won a pair of state championships at The Ridge in the 100 Fly and 100 Back.
