Tucson Summer Pro League to include league for kidsby Andy Morales on Jun. 14, 2013, under Sports
This will be the 10th anniversary for the Tucson Summer Pro League (TSPL). With the league folding in Phoenix, Tucson has established itself as one of the few remaining western cities to have a summer pro league along with Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
The TSPL is NCAA sanctioned for college and high school players and it was the first in the nation to have the league sanctioned for women players. Former Arizona Wildcat Corey Williams began the league in the summer of 2004. This year, the league will include a six-week season for 50 kids on five teams with 10 reserves.
All games will be played at St Gregory’s College Prep located at 3231 N Craycroft Rd.
The kids will play every weekend from June 15/16 to the championship on July 28 (No games July 6/7). The Pro League runs from Saturday, June 15-July 28.
There are 10 teams with 100 players on the Pro rosters with about 25 players on the reserve list.
Game times are 11 am and noon for the kids followed by the Pros every hour after the kids are finished. There are also a few Friday night games.
