Districts 5 and 12 cover the Tucson Area.
Generally, north of Speedway, west of I-10 and north of Valencia is the dividing line.
District 8 covers the rest of Southern Arizona.
All games matter, even a consolation game in the 9-10 Division of Little League baseball. Throw in a late-start due to rain and an hour rain delay in the first inning, and the game between Canyon View and Thornydale became an epic and entertaining affair that began at 5:15 and ended at 8:40 pm.
Thornydale struck first with runs in the top of the first and second innings to go up 2-0 before they added four more in the top of the third. Gefen Gordon started the game with a lead-off walk and was later driven in by Jordan Manley and Esteban Quesada scored on a double from Benny Chintis in the second inning.
Gordon scored on a passed ball in the third inning and Hayden Parson broke things open with a 3-run homer to plate himself, Lucas Mertes and Manley.
Meanwhile, Quesada was able to keep Canyon View off the base paths despite giving up a first-inning hit to Karson Feyereisen. Quesdada had collected four strikeouts but Remy Dasher reached on a walk to start the bottom of the fourth.
Dasher was able to work himself to third base on a passed ball and a ground out and he scored on an RBI grounder from Kobe Mercea that was mishandled. Mercea was thrown out at third base on the play. Owen Guest followed with a single but Quesada was able to retire the next batter to get out of the inning up 6-1.
Chase Michalczik gave way to Feyereisen and Feyereisen held Thornydale scoreless through the fourth and fifth inning but Thornydale pulled away with eight runs in the top of the sixth to put the game away. Dylan Hadley and Guest made appearances on the mound for Canyon View.
Gordon took the mound for Thornydale and he limited Canyon View to one base runner in the fourth while striking out six the rest of the way.
Guest and Feyereisen picked up hits for Canyon View and Mercea had an RBI. Thornydale was led by Parson who went 2-4 with a double, home run and four RBIs.
Also coming up big for Thornydale were Gordon (2-3, RBI), Quesada (2-3, double), Chintis (RBI double) and Manley (double, 3 RBIs). Mertes and Rene Figueroa also picked up hits.
The season ended for Canyon View but Thornydale has one more consolation game against Flowing Wells on Wednesday night at 6:30 pm at Mehl Park.
