Moving over to District 12 action, San Xavier and Palo Verde resumed their game at the Field of Dreams complex that was suspended Monday night due to the storm. San Xavier was up 4-3 entering the bottom of the third inning when the game was stopped.
Zak Freeland led the game off with single for Palo Verde and Andres Villaseñor came up one out later with a home run to give Palo Verde an early 2-0 lead. San Xavier picked up a run in their half of the inning after Marco Altamirano started with single and was driven home by Cristian Montano.
San Xavier scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to go up 4-2 but Palo Verde scored again in the top of the third before the game was stopped.
San Xavier was held scoreless through the third and the fourth on Tuesday evening but they still held a 4-3 lead until Palo Verde scored two more in the top of the fifth to retake the lead.
Adam Villaseñor reached on a two-out error and Andres Villaseñor made San Xavier pay with his second 2-run homer of the game.
Artemio Hoyos doubled to start things off in the bottom of the fifth for San Xavier and Oscar Leon brought him in one out later to tie the game at 5-5. Eli Moreno reached on a single with two outs but the ball was misplayed, allowing Leon to score on the hit.
Palo Verde was now down 6-5 with one inning to go. Andrew Yarger reached on a dropped third-strike with two outs to keep Palo Verde alive. Josh Gowing was hit-by-pitch to put two on but San Xavier was able to get the last out for the 6-5 win.
Andres Villaseñor finished with two home runs and four RBIs for Palo Verde. Freeland went 2-3 and Adam Villaseñor and Brock Oberdank also picked up hits.
Hoyos and Moreno went 2-3 with a double, Altamirano went 2-2, Leon went 2-3 and Montano and Jesus Alvarez each had hits.
San Xavier advances in the Winner’s Bracket and will play Freedom at 5:30 pm on Wednesday at the Field of Dreams. Palo Verde will play Friday night at 7:45 pm in the Elimination Bracket.
