Local fastpitch team to merge with Texas power: tryouts next weekby Andy Morales on Jul. 30, 2013, under Sports
The AZ Cats 14u-Biggan fastpitch team will be joining the Texas Impact-Gold organization this upcoming season. In doing so, it will be the first team outside of Texas play under the nationally known Impact-Gold banner.
“My goal is to try to get kids from Southern Arizona more national exposure,” explained Shannah Biggan. “A nationally recognized program like the Impact Gold will help with some of our players who often get overlooked.”
The Texas organization is sponsored by Louisville Slugger and Under Armor and there will be an open tryout next week for the 14U team with the possibility of adding more teams later.
Biggan is no stranger to the recruiting game. Her Cats Gold team has 11 players committed to play at the next level and she was an Academic All-American in the Missouri Valley Conference and is still listed highly in several categories at Wichita State (1986-88) and played for the Canadian National Team for five years, including two appearances in the Pan Am Games.
August 6-8 at Lincoln Park from 5:30-8 pm.
Pitchers and catchers need to be fully warmed up by 5:30 for their evaluations and position players stretched and ready by 6 pm.
