American Legion Western Region Tournament
Surprise Sports Complex: August 8-12
Post 7 Tucson, made up of players from Tucson High, Cienega and Sunnyside and coached by Badger coach Oscar Romero, lost to Las Vegas Monday afternoon in Surprise.
The loss gave the Arizona state champion a 3-2 record at the regional tournament, good enough for an impressive third place finish. California went on and beat Nevada 9-0 for the championship and they will now play at nationals.
Post 7 Tucson beat California on Sunday to qualify for the last three spots. It was California’s only loss (4-1). Nevada finished 4-2 with both losses coming against California.
For the tournament, Oscar Larranga finished 9-18 (.500), Benny Garcia 6-17 (.353) and Ruben Bracamontes went 7-20 (.350). Alex Robles had a home run, and Garcia and Bracamontes had 6 RBIs each.
Pedro Muniz, Indalecio Romo and Ryan Norrix picked up wins from the mound with Muniz collecting 9 strikeouts.
