WPSL All-Star Kelly Kearns ready to take over Mountain View girls soccer programby Andy Morales on Aug. 31, 2013, under Sports
Salpointe amassed an incredible 46-3-1 record and won back-to-back state titles with Kelly Pierce Kearns leading the Lancer defense from 1998-99. From there, Kearns moved over to Pima and then over to the Sonoran Thunder of the Women’s Premier Soccer League.
Kearns left the game to raise three boys (Tyler, Camden and Brady) but returned this year to help lead the Tucson Soccer Academy FC to a WPSL playoff run. Along the way, Kearns earned an All-West First Team selection.
Kearns will now take on the added task of leading the Mountain View High School squad this winter.
“I’m definitely looking forward to the high school season,” said Kearns. “When I played, high school was always my favorite and I looked forward to it so much.
“It’s such an intense, high commitment kind of season, but it’s short and I’m hoping these girls have as much fun as I always did all while learning the game and playing and training at a competitive level.”
Kearns was known to be the most fit member of TSAFC despite her age. Her skill level and work ethic caused the other, younger players to step up their game. Despite, perhaps golf, it is very rare for a high school coach to be one of the players on a team. At any rate, Kearns presence will push Mountain View to a new level.
