The Brandeis University volleyball team (2-1) rolled to a 3-0 win in their 2013 season opener against the Worcester State University Lancers in a match played as part of the Western Connecticut State University Invitational.
Rookie right-side hitter Jessica Kaufman (Cienega) performed well in her debut with seven kills, second-most in the match, and a .333 hitting percentage that led all players (7 K-2 E-15 TA).
Kaufman’s former high school teammate, Stephanie Mendivil, had a breakout performance for Rice (0-3) even though the Owls fell 3-1 to Santa Clara at the Bulldog Invitational. Mendivil, making her collegiate debut, had 15 kills, including eight in the second set. She hit .368 in the match.
Former Amphi/CDO setter Kerry Lane is the starting setter for Seattle University (2-1). The freshman is averaging almost 10 assists a set.
