Marana Middle School has been selected as one of the Wednesday, September 11 scheduled stops by the U.S. Department of Education’s “Strong Start, Bright Future” back-to-school bus tour.
As part of the bus tour, the school will host the First Lady’s “Let’s Move!” event to bring physical activity back to America’s schools.
Acting Assistant Secretary for Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, Michael Yudin will join seventeen district wellness coordinators, retired University of Arizona Basketball Coach Lute Olson, UA Women’s Basketball Coach Niya Butts and Arizona mascots Wilbur and Wilma T Wildcat.
2011 NCAA National Champion Wrestler Anthony Robles will also take part as will former Wildcat and NFL Lineman John Fina.
Aligned with the notion that “active students do better” and that all students can be active, this event will emphasize the power of healthy choices by showcasing a variety of fun physical challenges. MMS Principal Kristin Reidy will issue a “60 minutes for 60 days” physical activity challenge and lead students, staff and parents in a dance-off, relay races and various sporting activities.
