Siena freshman Haley Howell was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the third straight week on Tuesday morning, October 1.
Howell, a former Salpointe standout, played an instrumental role in Siena’s 3-0 MAAC week, according to a news release.
She averaged 9.8 assists, 1.7 digs and .5 blocks per set. Her marquee performance came in a 3-0 sweep at Niagara where she dished out 35 assists, killed two of her four attacks and tallied seven digs and two blocks. She began the week with a 43-assists effort in the 3-2 win at defending champion Fairfield. Howell also added three aces against the Stags, and served long runs in the critical third and fifth sets. In the 3-2 comeback win at Canisius, Howell handed out a match-high 49 assists, while adding nine digs and two aces.
Don’t think this was just against mid-level competition, Howell earned her first award by performing well against Texas A&M, Michigan and Florida State. All three teams are highly ranked.
Howell’s father is former University of Arizona tight end Glenn Howell.
