Russell Pearce couldn’t win the recall election with a shill candidate, so he has decided to be the shill candidate.

On Saturday the Arizona GOP held its annual meeting and election.  Chairman, Tom Morrissey put together a slate of “conservative “candidates.  The slate candidate for 1st Vice Chairman was Stephen Kohut, Tea Partier from Pinal County.  Kohut, is the new Chairman of the Pinal County GOP, halfway through his term.  His opponent was long time party loyalist and activist Diane Ortiz-Parsons.

Over the holiday’s it became obvious that Ortiz-Parsons was going to win this election and the only way that Morrissey and his slate were going to win is if someone was willing to bring a gun to this knife fight. The bare fisted Kohut, who was losing badly, he stepped out of the race to allow the reloaded Pearce run for the position and to carry the slate to victory.

It worked; Pearce won the election of with almost two-thirds of the vote. But 48 hours off a fresh victory, he filed paperwork with the Secretary of State’s Office to run for the Senate in the new Mesa District, LD25. So why would Pearce run for this office if he never planned on serving his a full-term?

According to Arizona Republican Party Bylaws:  “In the case of a vacancy in an elective office…the state chairman shall…appoint a successor.” Now with Pearce trying to win his old seat back, will Morrissey “appoint [as] successor” his original slate candidate?
