Citizens for Better Arizona member banned and censored?by Dee Dee Garcia Blase on Jun. 11, 2012, under 2012 Arizona Elections
Robert McDonald was a former Democratic chair for his district in Mesa, Arizona. He ran as a Democratic candidate in 2010 because he wanted to oust Russell Pearce in legislative district 18. Robert Hernandez McDonald Jr. is also proud to be a Democrat, A Democratic PC and State Committeeman and wants to take back his party from special interest groups. McDonald became a human rights and civil rights advocate when he witnessed the beating of his wife, Olivia, by officers of the Coolidge Police Department in 2007. He continues to support a reform of the Arizona Peace Officers Standards Board to take complaints against rogue officers who subvert a citizens civil rights. Now he has been banned and censored from the Citizens for Better Arizona.
What does CBA, Randy Parraz’s group, have to do with all of this? I will admit that I was once a supporter of CBA and assisted CBA with the successful recall against former Senate President Russell Pearce. The recall of Russell Pearce was indeed a very honorable, memorable, and historic event in Arizona political history, but Parraz is now engaged in censoring his CBA Facebook page because CBA has now been operating moreso like a PAC, a political action committee, and people have noticed and complained. Parraz, by his overt personal support of Paul Penzone, has engaged his “citizens” to covertly act in the best interests of Penzone, and this is now been viewed as being out of the scope of the interests of all citizens and turning CBA into a political action committee. Although Parraz has insisted he has not influenced CBA members, he has taken to censoring all criticism of CBA’s active involvement in Penzone’s campaign. I am one of CBA’s critics and have been censored by Parraz, banned from CBA, and banned from attending any and all future CBA functions.
But ardent CBA supporters are sticking with the leadership of Randy Parraz despite many questionable actions. One recent questionable action by Parraz is his “Notice of Trespass” against Civil Rights Activist Angel Garcia at a CBA event held on June 7, 2012, at the Jewish Historical Society, located near the Phoenix Public Library. At first, Garcia was told to leave. Since that didn’t work, Garcia was then told he wasn’t dressed appropriately. When that tact didn’t work, Parraz claimed that Garcia was trespassing. Garcia simply left voluntarily.
During the June 7th forum CBA accepted a $40,000 donation from 2010 CD3 democratic candidate Jon Hulburd. Before losing the election to Ben Quayle, it was discovered that Hulburd was an ardent supporter of SB1070, and there has been absolutely no evidence presented lately to update Jon Hulburd’s position in support of SB1070, Arizona’s “Driving While Brown” law. Why would Parraz be so willing to accept a donation from anybody who has expressed support of SB1070? And, additionally, if Randy Parraz is one of the founders of the Citizens for a Better Arizona, why is he collecting a $5,000 “consulting” fee?
For an organization claiming to operate in the interests of all citizens, CBA has been actively engaging to stifle criticism, restrict citizens from attending public functions, and act like a PAC to support candidates in a pre-primary season, among other things. It is debatable which of the above criticisms could be considered the worst, but it has become clear that the Citizens for a Better Arizona could aptly be renamed the “Citizens for a Biased Arizona”. It’s almost as if the Soviet Communist Party has been reincarnated in the guise of Randy Parraz’s CBA!
It’s no wonder that Democrats in Arizona can’t come together and become unified, as long as organizations like the CBA, ADP, and the MCDP, attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of democrats who can see through their attempts to distract, censor, suppress, and ignore Progressives interested in good government. And while all this infighting goes on, the GOP and its donors are counting their money, laughing at us on the left, and waiting to tighten their stranglehold on all Arizonans. The same thing is happening at the national level and it will cost us the Congress and the White House. Locally and nationally, as long as we allow the party leadership and side organizations like CBA to act without accountability, we will surely get the government we deserve, and it would be no one’s fault but our own.
