Mexican-Americans and Chicanos celebrate Flag Day — Several of us served our country and the right to protect our flag

There are many Republican restrictionists and protectionists such as Mitt Romney, Joe Arpaio, Russell Pearce, Tom Tancredo, Lamar Smith, Steve King, Pete Wilson, Marco Rubio and more who have all demonized Mexican-American Latinos and Latino immigrants for their own political expediency.
In fact and indeed, Latinos are extremely patriotic and we view Old Glory as a symbolic means to freedom “with Liberty and Justice for ALL”, not just the 1%.
According to NPR News:
Obama is asking Americans to fly their flags for longer than that – through July 4. He’s urging Americans to celebrate their U.S. heritage and find a chance to publicly say the Pledge of Allegiance
In this year’s official proclamation, President Obama notes in 1966, Congress asked “that the President annually issue a proclamation designating the week in which June 14 occurs as “National Flag Week” and call upon citizens of the United States to display the flag during that week.”

According to the Pew Hispanic Center, while Latinos make up 9.5 percent of the actively enlisted forces, they are over-represented in the categories that get the most dangerous assignments – infantry, gun crews and seamanship – and make up over 17.5 percent of the front lines. DOD numbers reveal 35,000 non-citizens currently in the active Armed Forces.
