Sen Rich Crandall is another Republican from Mesa, Arizona, (what’s in the water from there that is making them mean these 
days) who wanted to eliminate a program that provides free and reduced price lunches to poor children.

SB 1061, sponsored by Sen. Rich Crandall, R-Mesa, waives a mandate that kindergarten through eighth grade public school districts participate in the National School Lunch Program, a federal program that provides free and reduced-price lunches to children through cash subsidies.
While many Republican legislators laud the bill, saying it promotes “local control,” the bill baffles nutritionists and educators who say it attacks a federal program that provided Arizona more than $340 million in cash for lunches last year.
The program, called the “Healthy Hunger Kids Act,” was unveiled in detail Wednesday by First Lady Michelle Obama, detailing the increases of fruit, whole grain, and cut in sodium and trans fat-a $3.2 billion program to be implemented over the next five years.

Now Mr. Crandall is on the hot seat … but this time from two people of his own Republican Party who claim he left them a threatening message.
Should Crandall’s voicemail lead to an ethics hearing?
ABSOLUTELY!
This man is affecting education now because it appears he has a vendetta. Why should education and children continue to be punished for something they didn’t do? It doesn’t make sense for Crandall to threaten education legislation when kids have nothing to do with the political competitive nasty nature of rivals? Why can’t legislators leave their personal emotions out of conducting business affecting Arizona taxpayers? Arizona tax payers vote in public servants to do a job — not threaten to cut of educational legislation.
Crandall indeed needs to be investigated.

A pair of Republican lawmakers are accusing a powerful state Senator of using his power to get revenge and want him kicked out of office. State Represenatives Brenda Barton and John Fillmore on Tuesday called for Sen. Rich Crandall to be brought up on ethics charges. This comes after Crandall left an angry phone message with Barton threatening to kill her bills in the future.
“You know I’m furious at you right now and you better not try to run any education legislation what-so-ever the next two years… I’m furious at what you did,” Crandall said last week
Crandall, a Republican from Mesa, is the chairman of the Senate Education Committee. That gives him the power to effectively kill legislation in his committee by refusing to give it a hearing.
The political dust-up is centered on an on-going fight in which Barton saw Crandall’s teenage daughter and another girl ripping down campaign signs belonging to Fillmore.
