Another Bush/Gore Fiasco taking place in Florida due to GOP Voter Suppression laws

by on Nov. 06, 2012, under 2012 Congressional Races, 2012 Presidential elections, 2012 United states senate races

We are hearing too many stories where folks are having to stand in line for hours and hours.  The Florida Governor will not extend voting hours.  I believe this will pose a problem tonight that is reminiscent of what occurred in Bush/Gore 2000 election.

Voters Wait More Than 3 Hours To Vote In Miami-Dade County

Florida voters who turned out to vote early in the past week overwhelmed election offices and often had to stand in line for more than three hours to cast a ballot.

Unfortunately, the lines don’t appear to be any better on Election Day.

A Democratic source sent along video of voters lined up outside the West Sunset Fire Station in Miami-Dade County, Fla., around 10:00 a.m. EDT. People there had been waiting for more than three hours.

The problems with early voting in Florida were due in large part to the GOP legislature’s decision to cut the state’s early-voting period from 14 to eight days. Gov. Rick Scott (R) refused to extend early voting hours, despite the long lines.
