WOMEN AND POLITICS: Addressing Mitt Romney’s flip-flop on abortion as we ensure that nobody puts baby in a binder

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012

Friends,  If you aren’t on the distribution for MsRepresentation, you may want to read some of the stories here. Each hotlink takes you to another source for the story. I’ve highlighted a few I’m suggesting out of the bunch. You will be amazed at what some people think, say or do… Sadly not a big surprise, but worth noting.

( Please know that I offer this without regard to your political affiliation. I believe, as MsRepresentation does, that women need better representation in Congress and at other levels of American government. )

BRIEF: Nobody Puts Baby In A Binder

Posted by on October 17th, 2012

What the Flip?
It might seem like it should be against the law to flip-flop on your abortion stance the way Mitt Romney does, but it’d just be unconstitutional to take away his right to choose what’s best for him and his situation.

Moderately Offensive
Even after receiving pressure from both campaigns to not do her job as moderator by, y’know, moderating, Candy Crowley didn’t let anything get in the way of showing them who’s boss at the Presidential Debate last night. Further proof that if you need a job done right, you gotta call a woman. Which should be easy since Mitt Romney’s got binders full of ‘em! Hey-o!

Nobody Puts Baby In A Binder
Ladies, our “issues” are totes becoming a primary focus of the Presidential race, with both candidates desperately trying to appeal to women voters. Dang, my back hurts from having this entire election resting on my shoulders.

What is it with the antiquated misogynist Republican Party and Mitt Romney attacking veterans — the real patriots who put their lives on the line for our great Nation?

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012

Judas Priest, it is bad enough the Vietnam draft dodging Mitt Romney is trying to suppress the Ohio military vote, but now I just learned from VoteVets.org that Tammy Duckworth, a veteran of the Armed Forces and a patriot is being attacked by Republicans.

I’m a Gulf War I Veteran and an independent registered voter, so I am hella pissed that people have the audacity to attack veterans and our voting rights — especially a woman.   As such, Veterans and military dependents need to call out these Republicans.

Tammy Duckworth is now facing $2 million in attack ads from outside right wing groups, and more is coming.

We really need to step up for Tammy.  A Veteran and a patriot of her caliber deserves much better treatment from conservative groups, but, unfortunately, they’ve decided to take this campaign into the gutter.

We need to step up for Tammy, right now.  The airwaves are being flooded to tilt the race to the man who denigrated her service, time and time again.

HELP TAMMY DUCKWORTH FIGHT BACK

What happened to those Tear Down the Wall Reagan Republicans?

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012

One thing was for certain.  President Ronald Reagan was no coward.

That said, whatever happened to those “Tear Down the Wall” Reagan Republicans?  Did the Tea Party silence them all?  When will those ol’ Reagan Republicans tear down the walls and storm through the barricades within their own?

How is it that those old time Reagan Republicans advocated for tearing down walls in other countries, but they are nowhere to be found when it comes to our very own back yard?

Remember when Americans applauded President Ronald Reagan when he went overseas and advocated Tearing Down the Walls?  “Tear down this wall!” was the challenge issued by United States President Ronald Reagan to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to destroy the Berlin Wall, in a speech at the Brandenburg Gate near the Berlin Wall on June 12, 1987, commemorating the 750th anniversary of Berlin. Reagan challenged Gorbachev, who was then the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, to tear it down as an emblem of Gorbachev’s desire to increase freedom in the Eastern Bloc.

How was it right to tell other Nations to tear down their walls when we don’t take our own advice?

How is it that we spend millions and billions of dollars destroying other Nations and wasting billions to rebuild their infrastructure?  Don’t you think it’s time we stop bombing other nations and wasting billions of tax payer dollars just to rebuild what we bomb?   Don’t you think it’s time decreasing throwing our money away while investing it in our own continent instead?

Am I advocating for open borders?

No, I am not.

I realize we are living in the post 9-11 era, and as a veteran of the Armed Forces, I do believe in secure borders with a reasonable legal immigration plan.  We must think with foresight, and if all hell breaks loose (and it will), it is imperative our neighborly relations with Mexico and Canada are in pristine condition.  The American government has taken a position advocating there to be peace in the Mideast as we call countries to be more neighborly – and we must follow our own advice.

I repeat, mayhem will eventually break out in other parts and continents of the world.  It is imperative we have the ultimate back-up plan with our soil neighbors.

It is imperative we have a back-up plan with our neighboring countries and look to our tri-country continent resources – pulling them together in the event of a global disaster.

May Americans continue to rise without a party affiliation and look to what is in the best interest of our Nation instead of an organization(s) that has proven to be divisive.   We are the United States – not the divided states, and it is hella time for an American party to rise up from this mess.  As an independent voter, I can say this with great conviction.  Our greatest strength is unity, and when we capture that idea and harness it — we will survive the hard times.

I leave you with this video below  by Gary Johnson who was a long time Republican and left the GOP for the Libertarian Party.  Gary Johnson was a Republican Governor of New Mexico.

McCain Cannot Blast Obama on Immigration when McCain voted against the DREAM Act in 2010

Saturday, September 22nd, 2012

Did you folks read the latest POLITICO headlines regarding our Senator John McCain?

McCain fires back at Obama on immigration

McCain is at it again with his toeing the Party line tactics, but facts are stubborn things.

McCain is trying to solely blame Obama when he knew damn well “Mr. George W. Bush placed telephone calls to lawmakers throughout the morning of the immigration vote,  but members of his own Republican party abandoned him in droves, with only 12 of the 49 Senate Republicans sticking by him on the key procedural vote that determined the bill’s fate.

That said, this is simply McCain’s attempt at politicizing the issue to garner more Latino votes on behalf of Romney — but it ain’t gonna happen unless the GOP does away with their anti-immigrant platform they adopted recently.

Fast Forward … McCain lost his Latino street credibility when he voted against the DREAM Act of December 2010. Romney promised to VETO the DREAM Act. They are all the same and the bottom line is to look back at history on why American Presidents were reluctant to address immigration within their first term.

Who should Latinos gamble their voting chips into?

They should invest their vote into an incoming 2nd term President. Ronald Reagan didn’t address immigration until his second term, George W. Bush didn’t address immigration until his 2nd term either. In fact, W didn’t think there was a problem with immigration at all when he was running as POTUS the first time.

The only President in American history who addressed immigration within his first term was Pres. Benjamin Harrison when he supported Ellis Island, and he did not get re-elected into a second term and this occurred well over a century ago.  Now President Obama gets to go down in American history as a President who gave relief to DREAM Act students within his first term despite the fact that it was unpopular to be immigrant friendly during a fevered pitch anti-immigrant era.

My Independent and Latina vote is in Obama this year. Not necessarily because he is a Democrat, but because the GOP has adopted an anti-immigrant policy that emulates Arizona’s harsh SB 1070 views. The Republican Party has been thoroughly hijacked by the Dixiecrats and protectionists, while most Democrats are now toeing the Party line in support of the DREAM Act and immigration.  Both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party have witnessed a surge in independent voters, and now the Dems have to work harder at retaining the vote of the fastest growing demographic in the country when Obama gets re-elected.

Republicans like Senator John McCain continue to insult the intelligence of Latinos as they try to rewrite history.  I suppose McCain forgot about this circulated mass mailer below when Romney and McCain were fighting it out during the Republican Presidential primaries of 2008. I watched Mitt Romney systematically move Senator John McCain far to the right on matters affecting immigration during the 2008 GOP Presidential Republican primaries.  If it had not been for Mitt Romney, Latinos may have felt more comfortable in voting for John McCain over President Obama.  I attribute the loss of the McCain Hispanic vote to multiple-choiceMitt Romney.

McCain has been in the Senate too long, and his forgetfulness is causing me to be a strong believer in term limits.   Besides, McCain is no longer an amigo when he decided to vote against the DREAM Act of 2010.

Voten O Nos Botan! — New 2012 Latino Get Out the Vote Slogan Inspired by Nevada Leader

Wednesday, September 12th, 2012

The National Tequila Party Movement is working more on this “Voten O Nos Botan” campaign slogan thanks to Fernando Romero (the inspiration behind the Tequila Party). Fernando suggested we use this slogan when we met this past week in Las Vegas, Nevada, and thought it would motivate more southwestern eligible Latinos to be motivated to vote in support immigrant-friendly politicians like President Obama.

I have a lot of respect for Fernando, he is an independent thinking Democratic voter — and he has a track record that proves it.

Eligible Latino voters (particularly Mexican-Americans) ought to vote or the Republican Party will continue to work on laws that are drafted to kick us out.  Vote or they will find ways to boot you out of our own Country! Eligible Latino and Irish voters ought to vote and be a voice for the voiceless undocumented like Joaquin Luna who felt he had no hope! There is no reason why we should not vote in droves this year. Support President Obama in 2012 so that we can vote in an incoming 2nd term President who can do more on immigration.

Voten o nos botan!

Republicans support voter suppression and are designing laws to boot Latinos out even though we were born here.

National Latina/o Organization Responds to September 5, 2012 Supreme Court Decision to Arizona SB 10701

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

5 September 2012

info@nationaltequilapartymovement.com

Shirl Mora James, Lead Co-President, Civil Rights and Immigration Lawyer
DeeDee Garcia Blase, Foundress and Co-President

The National Tequila Party Movement responded to the Supreme Court’s June 2012 decision with regard to SB 1070 when we wrote:

“…The Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution is alive and well today.  The US Supreme Court clearly reaffirmed that immigration is within the preview of federal jurisdiction only.  Arizona completely lost on the question of 1) undocumented immigrant registration; 2) undocumented immigrant employment; 3) law enforcement officers arresting without a warrant.  The 4th provision regarding “papers please” was only narrowly upheld because the Court does not have the necessary facts to determine if the law is valid. The Court stated, “This opinion does not foreclose other preemption and constitutional challenges to the law as interpreted and applied after it goes into effect.”   In other words the Court did not have the necessary facts in front of them at this time, but the issue is being left with the door wide open.”

In other words, (even though the Supreme Court did not uphold most of SB 1070) the Court could not throw out the 4th provision — and it is predictable that Susan Bolton did not have much of a choice because they needed to see a case where someone is discriminated against.   If you read the Supreme Court decision of June 2012, the Supreme Court in essence stated it was premature to throw out the 4th section of SB 1070, but would entertain other challenges to this if someone is racially profiled against. They clearly invited challenges to the way it is applied.

We encourage brown-skinned individuals, or any other person of color to do the following if they feel their Civil Rights have been violated.

HOTLINE TO THE DOJ FOR FIELDING INQUIRIES TO REPORT CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN ARIZONA
