Baptist Member Arizona Republican Rep. Trent Franks Reverses Immigration Stance After Praying In PublicTuesday, October 29th, 2013
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.” - Matthew 6:5
We are not surprised to hear Arizona United States Representative Trent Franks reversed his immigration reform stance. Poor Petra Falcon reminds us of the Charlie Brown character who had the football taken away from him as he went for the kick. Petra Falcon is the President of Promise Arizona and earlier this past week, Rep. Trent Franks joined her in what we thought was a heartfelt prayer in support of the immigrants.
Chicano activist via Viva Ramirez chimed in on Carlos Galindo’s Radio Show Facebook Page with regard to Tea Party Republican Rep. Trent Franks’ immigration reversal:
Good Grief Charlie Brown!!! [or should I say 'Carlos' Brown?] And you thought you were really gonna kick that football this time didn’t you? Same ol’ Lucy, she just pulled it out from under you again…and there you are flat on your ass again.
Initially I thought Rep Trent Franks was a member of the Catholic Church since he pandered to the Catholic community during an election year when he warned saying Obama has no problem about blatantly insulting and assaulting Catholics while groveling before Muslim.
But Rep. Trent Franks is not a member of the Catholic Church.
Gail Mokry Shoultes, an Arizona Activist who supports legal immigration reform stated:
“Franks is a Baptist….he attends North Phoenix Baptist Church — the giant church that largely support Grand Canyon University, the private Christian university that hosted the AZ Republican Convention last year! He’s a evangelical and although he calls himself a Christian, the evangelicals are some of the biggest hypocrites I’ve ever seen.”
I telephoned the North Phoenix Baptist Church today to find out whether or not they were part of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), and a receptionist who answered the telephone confirmed the North Phoenix Baptist Church was part of the SBC.
Even though Rep. Trent Franks is not a member of the Catholic Church, and it is clear he has pandered to them before during the 2012 Presidential election season, he ought to be reminded that the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops are for Legal Immigration Reform. In fact he PEW Research Center wrote: ”American Catholic leaders have pledged to “pull out all the stops” in expressing support of a proposed overhaul of U.S. immigration laws.”
I find it troubling to see the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention leaders flying to Washington D.C. to ask Congress for the much needed legal immigration reform we need from a clearly broken system, yet one of their own Baptist politicians via Rep. Franks is playing games with families and their lives. It is a fact moms and dads are getting forced apart from their families for working at fast food restaurants, car wash businesses and so forth — and they are getting deported in the process.
Republican and a better member of the Mormon / LDS Church Senator Jeff Flake used to be against the DREAM Act but he voted for the 2013 Comprehensive Immigration Reform Plan. If Conservative Flake can be on the right side of immigration — then why can’t Franks do the right thing?
I am most disappointed with Rep. Trent Franks’ audacity to pray in public and giving false hopes to my people. He appeared to be contrite when he prayed alongside Petra Falcon — and now this Tea Party Republican has reversed his ‘good samaritan’ stance. As a result of his Tea Party stance, it leaves us no choice to give him a dose of the Tequila Party.
Que triste y que mal de este hombre. More than ever we need a Chicano resurgence with regard to the Mexican American voters. We don’t want politicians making the mistake of lumping Mexican American citizen voters and/or American born people of Mexican descent (a/k/a Chicanos) with “undocumented immigrants” because unlike the undocumented — WE CAN VOTE AND WILL!
