(DRM) Dream Action Coalition’s photo labels Sen. Ted Cruz as a “vendido” in “Gang of Hate”

by on May. 08, 2013, under Legal Immigration Reform

The (DRM) Dream Action Coalition’s photo below labels Sen. Ted Cruz as a “vendido” in “Gang of Hate” with regard to legal immigration reform.  The meaning of vendido is the brown equivalent of an Uncle Tom.

DRM writes:

Have you seen the amendments to the Immigration Reform bill added by Sen. Sessions, Cruz and Grassley?? In summary, they want no path to citizenship, SB-1070 nationally and more enforcement everywhere! Please help us convince Sen. Cornyn to not join the “Gang of Hate” and to be a champion for immigrant families in Texas.

Cuban-American Senator Ted Cruz still missing in action with regard to the Gang of 8 comprehensive immigration reform that will fix the clearly broken immigration system.  Did you know that Texas shares 64% of the southern border with Mexico yet there is no real leadership from Cruz?

Why isn’t Cuban-American Ted Cruz showing CIR leadership in his own State that is home to millions and millions of Mexican-Americans?!

Real Clear Politics: Ted Cruz Has a “Birther” Problem

I have news for Ted Cruz:  Texas is not Florida.

I predict the Texas Cuban-American Senator Ted Cruz will be a one term Senator in light of his opposition to the Gang of Eight Legal Immigration Reform Plan. In fact, Cruz wasn’t even born in Tejas.   Most of the Hispanic population in Texas are Mexican-American.  Cruz is aggravating immigrant activists and the Mexican-American / Chicano community because Ted Cruz  is not supporting the Gang of 8 Legal Immigration Reform plan to a clearly broken immigration system.

Ted Cruz, the Anti-Rubio Who Is Determined to Stop Immigration Reform

by May 2, 2013 4:45 AM EDT

The Texas freshman has become the face of the GOP opposition to immigration reform—and that could boost the senator’s prospects in 2016, reports David Catanese.  FULL STORY>>>

Cuban-American Ted Cruz is living in the State of Texas where the majority of the Latin people are of Mexican descent and the below story hints to why I believe he will be a one term Senator if he does not do a complete 180 to his immigration political views.

From the USA TODAY:

“There are more Mexicans here than ever before,” Villagran, a buyer for a scrap metal company, says of Pasadena. “We’ve kind of taken over.”

And then some. Overall, Texas’ population grew to more than 25 million, awarding the nation’s second most populous state four more seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Hispanics accounted for 65% of the state’s growth since 2000, while non-Hispanic whites experienced the smallest increase of any group, just 4.2%. The black population grew by 22%.

“We’re seeing the development of two populations groups in Texas: aging Anglos and young minorities,” says Steve Murdock, a former Census Bureau director and now a Rice University sociology professor. “We’re seeing Hispanic growth not just deepen but become pervasive throughout the state.”

A healthy state economy during the recent recession and Mexican nationals fleeing drug cartel violence in Mexico also contributed to Texas’ population boom, he says. Border towns saw sharp increases: Brownsville’s population rose 25% and Laredo’s by 33%.

But natural Latino population increases — more Latinos born in the state than dying — were the main engine, he says. For the first time in recent history, Texas is less than half non-Hispanic white, dipping to 45%, the data shows. Hispanics make up about 38% of the total population.

The state’s burgeoning Hispanic population mirrors what’s happening across the USA, Murdock says. “The Texas of today is the U.S. of tomorrow,” he says.

Another telling statistic: Texas added nearly 1 million children under 18 — 95% of them Hispanic, says William Frey, a demographer for the Brookings Institution. “That’s the future of the state,” he says. “It’s a diverse one.”

Sen. Marco Rubio Denounces Heritage Immigration Study — Sen. Ted Cruz shows no leadership on Gang of 8 Immigration Despite the Millions of Mexican-Americans Living in Texas

I believe in giving credit where credit is due.

As a Mexican-American, I am glad the Cuban-American Senator Marco Rubio is denouncing the Heritage Immigration Study.  We are glad to see this because Kris Kobach was the legal architect of Arizona’s SB1070, and also a non staff member at The Heritage Foundation.

Florida’s Sen Rubio stated:

“Their argument is based on a single premise, which I think is flawed,” Rubio told reporters. “That is these people are disproportionately poor because they have no education and they will be poor for the rest of their lives in the U.S. Quite frankly that’s not the immigration experience in the U.S. That’s certainly not my family’s experience in the U.S. The folks described in that report are my family. My mother and dad didn’t graduate high school and I would not say they were a burden on the United States…My parents were a lot better off 25 years after they emigrated here than they were when they first got here. And their children certainly have been. I still think we’re that country. And I still think we can be that country and even more in the future, so I guess I just have a lot more belief in the future of the country than some of the folks that helped prepare [the report].”

Rubio is from Florida showing leadership while we are seeing the Texas Cuban-American Senator Ted Cruz still missing in action

Here’s a question for you: Why does the Gang of 8 immigration comprehensive bill isolate it’s so-called border security to just the southern border with Mexico?

Why is the Gang 0f 8 putting $3 billion additional dollars to watch the Mexican border but not the Canadian border, too?

Did you know we have undocumented Canadians in our Nation, too?

Why not put additional border security on the Canadian border and the Floridian border since drugs are trafficked through the Caribbean, too?

Indeed a $180 million drug submarine bust was made in the Carribean.

In fact just last month, 2 suspected Al Qaeda terrorists were busted in Canada before they could wreak havoc on the rails by blowing up a New York-to-Toronto passenger train.

Where are the so called pro National Security people (Cornyn, Cruz, Vitter and Grassley) at with regard to the entire border of our country?

As a proud woman veteran of our Armed Forces, I believe we should protect all of our borders that touch Canada, the Pacific Ocean, and the Atlantic Ocean, too!

Why are we just focusing in on the “brown” border?  See the hypocrisy of our elected and public officials?

See below from America’s Voice with regard to anti-immigrant hardliners like Sens. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), John Cornyn (R-TX), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and David Vitter (R-LA).  These aforementioned Senators did not support the DREAM Act / Gang of 8 comprehensive immigration reform plan that affects millions of Mexican-Americans.

DREAM Act activist Cesar Vargas states:

Said Cesar Vargas, DREAMer and Director of DRM Action Coalition, “As DREAMers, we see a genuine effort by many Republicans to debate and finally resolve the issue of our outdated immigration system. But fringe voices like Senators Cruz, Sessions, Cornyn, Vitter, and Grassley have resorted to baseless attacks on immigrant and Latino families. Their main objective is to kill the bill. We are asking all Senators to not be naive and mark them for what they really are: obstructionist members of the ‘Gang of Hate.’”

From America’s Voice:

Meet the Senate “Gang of Hate”
by Pili Tobar

Now that you’re familiar with the members of the bipartisan Senate Gang of Eight, get ready to meet the Senate “Gang of Hate.”

With the Senate immigration mark-up set to kick off this week, new profiles by America’s Voice Education Fund shed light on key immigration reform opponents in the Senate – Sens. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), John Cornyn (R-TX), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and David Vitter (R-LA)—and highlight their deep ties to anti-immigrant groups as well as their record on immigration reform and other issues.

On a press call today, America’s Voice Education Fund alongside fellow immigration advocates reviewed the profiles of the “Gang of Hate” and their accomplices and further previewed what we expect to see from these characters as the Senate Judiciary Committee prepares to take up the bipartisan Gang of Eight bill this week.

Aaron Patrick Flanagan, Director of Research at the Center for New Community, who played an instrumental role in compiling research for the profiles said, “What the research behind the ‘Gang of Hate’ profiles reflects is that, for years, these Senators have been content to represent a small cadre of anti-immigrant special interest groups—the Federation for American Immigration Reform, NumbersUSA, and the Center for Immigration Studies—in Washington, DC, but not the best-interests of their constituents. The ‘Gang of Hate’ is willing to conduct private business with anti-immigrant special interest groups by entertaining their lobbyists, adopting their messages, and utilizing their factually inaccurate research.”

In addition to the Senate “Gang of Hate” members, the profiles also highlight key allies and collaborators of the Senate “Gang of Hate.”  The Senators’ “brain trust” (or “drain trust”), includes Mark Krikorian, head of the anti-immigrant “think tank” Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) and the intellectual author of self-deportation; Kris Kobach, Kansas Secretary of State and author of the Arizona and Alabama “show me your papers” laws; Chris Crane, president of the ICE union who has spent the last several months complaining that President Obama’s prosecutorial discretion policies are harming his agents; former Senator and current Heritage Foundation president Jim DeMint (R-SC); and finally, John Tantonthe father of the modern anti-immigrant movement.

As the Senate Judiciary Committee mark-up commences, all eyes will be on Republican leaders to see if they continue to forge a new way forward supported by the vast majority of the American people or let the “Gang of Hate” dominate the debate and derail reform.

According to Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice Education Fund, “While the Senate ‘Gang of Hate’ is a playful designation that riffs off the Senate ‘Gang of Eight,’ there are serious policy issues at stake.  The named opponents of immigration reform not only want to scuttle the bill, they want policies that ramp up enforcement and block a path to immigration status and citizenship.  This adds up to ‘self-deportation,’ the radical position advanced by Mitt Romney and created by the anti-immigrant groups.  And self-deportation means making life so intolerable and impossible for undocumented immigrants and their legal relatives that those that don’t get picked up for deportation should pick up and self-deport.  This agenda, which is supported by a small percentage of Americans generally and conservatives specifically, does not represent who we are as a nation nor can it be allowed to thwart the best chance Congress has had in years to solve this problem once and for all.”

Creator of World’s 1st Jewish – Chicano Radio Show Slams Cuban-American Senator Ted Cruz

I have said it before and I’ll say it again:  I believe in strengthening the relationship between the Mexican-American (Chicano) community and the Jewish community.   Mexican-Americans account for almost 70% of the “Latino” population pie — and are the bulk of the fastest growing demographic in our Nation.  I believe in the resurgence of the Chicano movement and the idea of empowerment as we all work towards making the world a better place.

I get discouraged when the media seeks the view of an anti-immigrant and anti-DREAM Act “Hispanic” politician such as Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas when Cruz is of Cuban descent.  Remember, the Cuban-American population accounts for only 3% of the Latin population pie, and their views may not always align with those of Mexican descent.  Those of Mexican descent are indigenous to our Country and we will always take care of our land and this great Nation because we are native to it to begin with.

I am glad to see Cuban-American Senator Marco Rubio of Florida reverse his positions on the DREAM Act and immigration since December of 2010 when he didn’t initially support the DREAM.  But now Rubio is part of the Gang of 8 legal immigration reform plan that helps to fix the broken immigration system.  We support that, yet we cannot understand why the Texas Cuban-American Senator Ted Cruz does not support the Gang of 8 legal immigration reform plan.  Approximately half the State of Texas population is Mexican-American!  It is a direct slap in the face to the Mexican-American community for the Cuban-American / Canadian Senator to not help push for LEGAL immigration reform when we all know the billions of billions of dollars Texas business benefit from with regard to our ally and trade neighbor in Mexico. In addition to the billion dollar business industry with Mexico, Texas benefits in additional revenues made with regard to the ports of entry and tariffs.

Our Jewish amigo via Lou is the Creator of the world’s very first Jewish – Chicano Radio show.  He chimes in on Cuban-American Senator Ted Cruz’s policies below.

TED CRUZ – FEARLESS HYPOCRITICAL SO-CALLED “HISPANIC” OF THE RIGHT WING HOLDS UP IMMIGRATION REFORM

Texas Senator Ted Cruz, the former Canadian, is holding up the US House of Representatives much needed involvement to enter into the debate for Comprehensive Immigration Reform. He objects to the creation of any House-Senate conference committee because he first wants a guarantee that CIR won’t raise any taxes on the rich or raise the debt ceiling. In other words, he’s holding CIR hostage with his Tea Party Agenda.

Harry Reid has labeled Cruz “like a schoolyard bully”.

To repeat: Ted Cruz has taken CIR hostage by favoring his Tea Party agenda.

Last year, Cruz said he didn’t support a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants living in America. Cruz has been a border hawk and in favor of increasing penalties on people living in the United States. While the rest of the nation now views immigration reform very favorably, Cruz has remained entirely Natavist.

Somehow there has been talk of Ted Cruz running for president in 2016. Indeed, there is a bold contingent of the Republican Tea Party that has taken great interest in Cruz for his conservative stances and his image as a dynamic orator. But former New Mexico Governor Bill Richards now questions Cruz’s credentials as a “Hispanic” because Cruz was born in Canada and his Castro supporting father, Raphael Cruz, fled Cuba when Castro came to power (a fact that confuses everyone as Raphael was Castro-friendly). Since Cruz was NOT born on US soil, there is no way he could ever become President unless the US Constitution gets amended to allow a “naturalized citizen” to run for the office.

Lo and Behold! . . . Who now compliments Ted Cruz? James Carville, Democratic strategist during the Clinton administration, calling Cruz “fearless”, “talented” and “someone to watch”. In doing so, Carville is really paying Cruz a back-handed compliment, because he forgot to add “stupid”; at no time does Carville agree with Cruz but merely recognizes that Cruz is “fearless” to take on such unpopular stances to everyone but the Tea Party. And there are even those in the Tea Party who reject Cruz’s hardcore interference on CIR.

Just because Carville compliments Cruz does NOT mean that Cruz has somehow become a champion for the Left. Carville’s compliment really acts as a reminder to all of us exactly what kind of politician Cruz has become in a Post-2012 Election era that spelled defeat for a Republican Party that tried to lead us towards more hatred of immigrants, distrust of Mexicans, and Natavist paranoia against “illegal aliens”. In the aftermath of the election, most Republicans now realize how unpopular such thinking has been to doom the Republican Party, but somehow Ted Cruz and all of his Tea Party so-called “patriots” haven’t received the memo, and there is nothing wrong with strategists like James Carville to remind us of what Ted Cruz doesn’t seem to know or understand.

Where are all the Birthers on this issue? Haven’t the Birthers been paying attention? If the issue of where someone was born has always been so important to these kind of invalidating idiots, shouldn’t they also go after Cruz? After all, didn’t they once go after John McCain, the Republican nominee for President in 2008? Here in Arizona, during the J.D. Hayworth vs. John McCain Republican Primary in 2010, Hayworth hammered McCain regarding McCain’s birth in the Panama Canal Zone; although McCain was born of an American citizen, he wasn’t born on US soil. Also in Arizona, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio created a posse to investigate the birth of Barack Obama. Additionally, disgraced and recalled State Senator Russell Pearce, when he was in power, flexed mucho muscles to question the same allowance John McCain used, to get on the national presidential ballot, to deny recognition of those born on US Soil to pregnant immigrants, calling for a hard line stance against “anchor babies”. And Tom Horne, the current Arizona Attorney General, wrote HB2281 when he was Arizona’s Superintendent of Education, to strip away the study of Mexican-American Studies out of the curriculum, was born in Canada, too. (Horne is also on record for his dysfunctional interpretation of Martin Luther King’s plea that “A man should be judged for the content of his character, not the color of his skin”, yet Horne moved to create a Brave New World for his Natavist Tea Party supporters by “erasing” Mexican-American Studies from Arizona’s schools.)

It is such hypocrisy for the Birthers to discriminately choose their targets. This just goes to show that the Birthers only target those politicos who are against their own agenda of austerity, isolationism, and Nativism. It’s no wonder many are leaving the Tea Party in droves. No one respects a hypocrite.

And Ted Cruz is the biggest and latest Republican Flavor of Hypocrisy. With a name like “Cruz”, Ted thinks he speaks on behalf of all the Mexican-American voices but HE DOES NOT. In fact, since the Birthers are more interested in protecting the Tea Party agenda instead of being true to their mission of Birthism, allow me to wonder about the origin of Ted Cruz, immigrant from Canada, who carries blood from Cuba (NOT Mexico) and has more in common with Canadians than Cubans: He does NOT represent the interest of Mexican-Americans in the United States; He wasn’t born in the US and he wasn’t born in Cuba.

So there now exists a contradiction within the Birther movement. Obama has proved he was born in Hawaii, despite attempts by the Birthers to the contrary. And Cruz has openly admitted that he was not born in Cuba but in Canada, so it is valid to question Cruz’s Tea Party perceived qualifications of Cruz to represent Hispanics/Latinos . . . and this should be of great interest for anyone looking for a true voice to represent Mexican-Americans in the US.

Thank you, James Carville, for calling Cruz “fearless” because it is clear to me, and it should be clear to you, Dear Reader, that Ted Cruz MUST be fearless to play his current “Hispanic Tea Party Nativist” role, holding Comprehensive Immigration Reform hostage in the US House of Representatives . . . because he is also stupid.

We don’t want anyone stupid on our team.

Disney wise to withdraw trademark filing for Dia de los Muertos

Yesterday a viral petition to get Disney to withdraw the trademark on Dia de los Muertos was making its way around the net.  According to the PEW, rates of technology use among native-born Hispanics [Mexican-Americans] are relatively high. I signed the petition along with several other Mexican-American leaders who believe our culture should not be owned by a corporation.

We own our own culture.

More importantly, hundreds of Mexican-American artists draw, paint or sing about Dia de los Muertos.  It would have been a shame for a corporation to make their way in monopolizing what is ours.

We are very glad to hear Disney withdrew.  I predicted a Mexican-American backlash if

If the dead could speak, they probably wouldn’t have been heard over the burst of virtual shouting and howling Walt Disney Co. drew for attempting to trademark “Dia de los Muertos” — a bid it has since dropped.

The company filed 10 applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for “Dia de los Muertos,” including applications pertaining to toys, cereals and jewelry. The May 1 filings came in anticipation of an untitled movie about the Mexican holiday, known in English as Day of the Dead.

the Phoenix area and hundreds of parties throughout the state – it is hard to argue with that fact particularly when Arizona’s  very own Chicano Picasso via El Moises sparked a new Latin Renaissance movement which enhances, encourages, and embraces Mexican-American culture via art, lowriders, hot rods, custom motorcycles and live art demonstration.

The unique thing about the Grand Avenue Get Down / Cinco de Mayo celebration was that this event included artists from our neighboring states like California and New Mexico.  The California artists included:  D.A. Garcia, El Chikle, Jowee Mr. Rhythm Ramirez, Lucky Hellcat, Johnathan Mercado and  Ricardo Islas.   New Mexican artists included: Nani Chacon and Toby Morfin.  Last but certainly not least, Arizona artists included: Sam Gomez, Jason Rudolph Pena, El Moises, John Garza, Angelica Johnson, El Podrido, Moe Madrid, El Whyner, Pablo Luna, Albert Rodriguez, Buggs, Leland Chapin, Mike Royal Sage Rock, Ron Hernandez, Luis Miranda, 9 Gallery artists and more.

Next year’s Cinco de Mayo event will be bigger.   Bigger plans are already being made with a concert, car and motorcycle show.  John Coll’s Brewery should be in full swing by then, too, and this is all very exciting.

Lowrider and hot rod cruising is a lot of fun.  If you have never been on a lowrider cruise before, you are in luck as I take a quick video from a Cadillac convertible point of view while interviewing one of the pinstripers who pinstriped at the Grand Avenue Get Down event.

Several pinstriper artists dominated the event while showcasing their work in addition to the many many other acrylic and mixed media artists who adorned our City with their beautiful paintings and artwork.

Where are the nativists and birthers now? Sen. Ted Cruz — Son of Cuban Immigrant was born in Canada

by on May. 07, 2013, under Legal Immigration Reform

Of all the hypocrisy when it comes to the Tea Party anti-immigrant people.

The anti-immigrant folks gave Cuban-American Senator Marco Rubio a world of crap when Rubio started to support the Gang of 8 legal immigration comprehensive immigration reform that will fix the long overdue broken immigration system.  (By the way, we are glad to see Rubio change positions — you see … initially he was against the DREAM Act and now he is coming around to supporting legal immigration reform).

But now we see another hypocrite on the horizon via Sen. Ted Cruz who is the son of a Cuban immigrant.  Cruz has family in the United States that have migrated to our Country and who has benefited from privileged Cuban amnesty via the Cuban Adjustment Act.

Elder Cruz fled to the U.S. with nothing but $100 sowed into his underwear. But according to the inflation calculator, $100.00 back then is equivalent to $826.21 today. That is a whole helluva lot more money than the dying immigrant crossing the desert comes here with. Many immigrants crossing the desert die of dehydration.

Elder Cruz fled to the U.S. with $100 sowed into his underwear, but according to the inflation calculator, $100 back then is equivalent to $826.21 today.

You will hear Cruz try to play your heart strings when he tells a (pretend sob story) on how his daddy came to the States with $100 bucks sown into his underwear.

According to FOX NEWS:

Cruz’s father Rafael is a pastor outside Dallas. He fought with Fidel Castro’s rebels in Cuba before Castro took power and eventually embraced communism, and the elder Cruz fled to the U.S. with nothing but $100 sowed into his underwear.

But according to the inflation calculator, $100.00 back then is equivalent to $826.21 today.  That is a whole helluva lot more money than the dying immigrant crossing the desert comes here with.  Many immigrants crossing the desert die of dehydration.

You also won’t hear a whole lot with regard to Cruz’s family history of siding with Fidel Castro’s rebels.

Why is that?

I thought that is why Cuban immigrants were fleeing Cuba?  To get away from the corrupt Fidel?

That said … I remember oh too well how the nativist and tea party birther Republican people have taken every opportunity  time and time again to slam President Obama with regard to his birth history even though Obama provided his long form birth certificate from Hawaii.

Nativist and Birther Republicans to the tune of Joe Arpaio, the ousted Arizona Senator Russell Pearce, former Congressman J.D. Hayworth, former Congressman Tom Tancredo and several other conservatives fueled an anti-Obama movement making false claims on the whereabouts of this birth because Obama’s dad was not an American Citizen even though Obama’s mother is Anglo and was an American born Citizen.

Where is Arpaio, Pearce, Hayworth, Tancredo at now as it relates to Sen. Ted Cruz?  Their ilk put Senator John McCain thru the grind back in the day lest we forget.

But ah yes….we know that Cuban-American Senator Ted Cruz is being set up.  Senator Marco Rubio was too smart to fall for that :”nativist and anti-immigrant” trap and unfortunately the same cannot be said of Cruz.

Ladies and Gentleman:  Cruz will more than likely be a one term Senator in Texas.  He benefited from the “Hispanic” label in an effort to bamboozle the millions of Mexican-American voters in Texas, but those Mexican Americans (and who account for nearly half of the Texas population) are finding out that Cruz (son of Cuban immigrant) is not in support of legal immigration reform via the Gang of 8, and Cruz does not support our children via the DREAM Act.

I have been  waiting for this and finally we see Texas Rep. You see, Castro understands that almost half of Texas are of Mexican descent and he knows the disastrous anti-immigration impact Ted Cruz brings to the economic table.

This is precisely why I really like  Texas Represenative Joaquin Castro, and I believe he would make an excellent Vice Presidential candidate in the near future that could politically re-align the entire southwest with regard to the growing Mexican-American demographic for any political party that embraces him.

As a Mexican-American … I am tired of the likes of Ted Cruz who becomes “Hispanic” when it benefits him.  Cruz has taken

every opportunity to be a thorn in the side of the much legal comprehensive immigration reform that is needed.  He is against the DREAM Act even though his Cuban immigrant family members benefited from privileged Cuban amnesty via the Cuban Adjustment Act.  Cruz wants to shut the door behind him and punish other hardworking immigrants that have helped the agricultural community and our United States economy.

According to Cleveland.Com, Police arrested the owner of the house, Ariel Castro, 52, who had lived in the house since 1992. Records show he was arrested for domestic  violence in 1993, but a grand jury declined to indict him.

As a woman, I’m curious why the grand jury declined to indict him.  I think many women will be probing this aspect of the story as the days move along and since many of us heard the 911 call made by Amanda Berry who was able to escape.  She was clearly terrified and we heard sobbing in the background.

There is no excuse for men who physically harm, stalk, terrify, harass, kidnap and rape children or women –  and sometimes I wish a strong example can be made out of cases like this.

Are simple jail sentences enough to prevent kidnaps and raping of women or children?

I encourage you to take the poll below:

To the John Tanton network / xenophobes who are thirsty and ready to turn this into an anti-Latino agenda:

It appears the suspect they arrested was an American citizen — not an undocumented person.   We know how you tried to turn a national tragedy via the Boston Bombing into an anti-Latino / anti-immigrant ordeal and it backfired on you.
