Kyrsten Sinema gets booed by Latino Democratic activists

We are glad to see Democratic leaders, voters and supporters come to their senses since Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema decided to get tough on immigration when she supported SB 1225. According to the Hill, Cherny worked as a prosecutor and an aide in the Clinton administration before leading the state’s Democratic efforts. Since entering the race, Cherny has picked up the support of former state Attorney General Terry Goddard, the Democratic nominee in 2010 to unseat Gov. Jan Brewer (R-Ariz.).  The Hill rates this race a toss-up.

Democratic supporters/voters are smart to support former Arizona Democratic Party Chairman Andrei Cherny for Congressional District 9 over Sinema, since Sen. Kyrsten Sinema essentially upset Latino activists, Latino voters and her own colleague via Senator Steve Gallardo.

Why are the Democratic voters smart to get behind someone else other than Sinema?

Answer:  CD 9 consists of approximately 22% Latino population and this translates into strong swing voting power.

As an Independent registered voter, and as a Mexican-American….I do want to see Cherny beat Kyrsten in the Democratic Primary Election.  My primary reason for wanting to see Sinema lose can be viewed here where she confesses her love of Russell Pearce (primary supporter behind Arizona’s harsh anti-immigrant law).

Latino Democrat Steve Gallardo stands up against Kyrsten Sinema’s SB1225, her get “tough on immigration” bill

Stephen Lemons of the Phoenix New Times picks up the SB1225 saga and includes some more insight into growing Latino opposition to it.

Steve Gallardo stands up against Kyrsten Sinema’s ‘tough on immigration’ SB1225.

The right-wing loves Kyrsten Sinema’s “tough on immigration” bill SB1225, and indeed she has 10 Republican co-sponsors, but Democrats are not on board yet, and especially not the Latino Democrats such as Steve Gallardo.

I have to interject and add that I strongly agree with Gallardo. We do not need any more immigration bills, and we don’t need to give Sheriff Arpaio more power to get “tough on immigration.” Focus on the economy!
