Bringing the Texas Tears to Florida’s Hurricane Eye
Poem By DeeDee Garcia Blase
(Latina Freedom Rider Trip for Immigrants dedicated in loving memory of Joaquin Luna memory and his family as the Latina Freedom Riders protest GOP Convention and antiquated anti-immigrant official platform of Republican Party that predates the Civil Rights Era. We are set to protest GOP 2012 convention).
You’re the child that will lead us just as certain as the leopards lie with the goats.
Your faith in God is like no other I have seen before.
Your struggles were far and wide, but you kept hope alive for as long as you could – you did right.
Reading your essay the first time was hard to do, but reading it a third time took some wine to do.
I spoke with your family today, and I try to be strong when I hear their voices shake.
As we prepare for this Latina Freedom Ride to revive your memory and your beautiful life, I can’t help but wish you didn’t take your life. In my DREAMs it’s still the same just the way it used to be.
The only thing that keeps us going in this fight, is knowing you were in the Heavens helping the blessed relief.
Indeed you did have a point of existence in this world, and even though I didn’t meet you … I would like to believe that you would have been one of a million or so that could have received the blessing of relief you were seeking.
We would like to wish and think that only if you could’ve waited a few more months … reliving the nightmare grips our soul and chokes our heart with reality of what occurred the day after Thanksgiving in 2011.
… And we knew you wanted to be an architect and Lord I wish you would have been known for building the biggest and brightest buildings in Dallas, Austin and San Antone.
I know the drive to success had everything to do with the love for your family, but deep down I know your family wishes having you in the living flesh was more important in having your being here than piles of money that we can’t take with us to Heaven anyway.
You wrote about fulfilling a dream in waiting… when Son, it was YOU, who helped fulfill 1.7 million acts of compassion, dear beloved Joaquin.
You did that. Nobody else.
Not a day will go by when I wished you hadn’t made that ultimate sacrifice, and we all look forward to meeting you someday as I hope the good Lord created a special duty to help in the creation of His Temple.
Indeed it’s flooding tears in Texas, and may your prayers be with us in the Eye of the Florida Hurricane Storm next week.
We Miss You.
