Arizona Civil Rights Leader Weighs In On Matthew Kolken’s Rosa Parks Controversial Statement and DREAM 9Friday, November 8th, 2013
We wrote about Matthew Kolken several months ago because Kolken is one of President Obama’s most vocal critics on immigration. According to FOX NEWS Latino, Kolken is the Anglo attorney that gave “guidance” to the Dream 9. The Dream 9 consists of people who deported themselves, and coincidentally enough these self deportation ideas are ideas supported by the former and ousted Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce and the two-time GOP Presidential candidate loser via Mitt Romney. Make no mistake, the Mexican American voters who live in the bordering State of Arizona pushed back against the self deport idea via the Dream 9 because they don’t want under educated Mexican immigrants to receive poor advice that will affect them in the long term.
I think it’s fair to point out that Kolken was back and forth yesterday like a 2 year old child who didn’t get what he wanted — in the morning he was begging Rep. Luis Gutierrez to help the DREAM 30 because of Gutierrez’s commitment to the cause; but then Kolken began to retweet the attacks on Rep. Gutierrez made by radical and extremist groups via DreamActivist.org and the National Immigrant Youth Alliance (NIYA). Now we catch Kolken telling FOX that Gutierrez is being manipulated?
Would Kolken say that about a white guy?
Do the math.
This is not the first time Kolken has made controversial statements, and he seems a bit out of touch with regard to Civil Rights and what occurred.
I met an Arizona Civil Rights Activist via Reverend Jarret Maupin when we were trying to help Civil Rights Leader Reverend Stewart get elected with regard to a City Council race and expanding the Black and Brown Coalition with future generations. I spoke to the reverend about Kolken’s controversial remarks with regard to Rosa Parks and the DREAM 9 publicity stunt.
Reverend Maupin states:
“Matthew Kolken sounds like a white lawyer on a mercy mission to make money while giving bad guidance to immigrants of color. I would hope young undocumented DREAMers who are desperately seeking help will find someone who has their best interest. It is not wise to follow Mitt Romney Republican advice to return back to Mexico. I believe immigrants are being misled.
Equating Rosa Parks to those who deported themselves to Mexico is not adding up. Rosa Parks chose to ‘stay’ and ‘remain’ on the bus – not leave. Self-deportation advice would be like telling Rosa Parks to go back to Africa in order to obtain her Civil Rights.
First of all, if you are part of this country, you should ‘stay’ and ‘remain’ in the Country the way Parks remained on the bus.
Second of all, the leaders of the self-deport idea do not appear brave enough to take their own advice.
Will Matthew Kolken guide white undocumented immigrants to return to places like Eastern Europe?
There appears to be genocidal dangerous motives behind guidance given to undocumented immigrants. ”
I agree, and in fact, I told the HuffPost Live audience on July 31, 2013: “”…it is the wrong message to leave our Nation when every single one of us are fighting for them to stay within our borders. … We know Obama will sign #CIR if the bill lands on his desk, and we need to target Republicans who are against CIR…”
But I have questions of Mr. Kolken that have still gone unanswered.
3 of the Dream 9 were eligible for DACA relief, but instead they decided to add their publicity stunt to the already bloated detention facilities at the expense of us (the American tax payer). Mexican American voters do not support adding to our tax bill under the name of ‘publicity stunts’ and certainly we do not want to encourage those who profit from activism and conflict. We maintain millions of our dollars are already being wasted on detention center in light of prison profits. More importantly, it is a fact Mohammad Abdollahi (Iranian immigrant) solicits for thousands of dollars under the name of “legal coyote” work. Why is Matthew Kolken critical of Rep. Luis Gutierrez instead of being critical of one of pseudo immigrant rights activist via Mohammad Abdollahi and his “legal coyote” work and wanting to kill CIR?
