Over the years, I have heard those who appear to support the corruption and brutality of the Arpaio jail system make ignorant and uninformed comments such as: “They deserve harsh treatment…,” “If you don’t want this to happen to you, don’t get arrested,” “North Korea [or insert the name of a corrupt, brutal dictatorship here] locks you away and tortures you.”

These statements display a shocking lack of understanding of the history, principles and philosophies on which the United States was founded and how the American justice system is supposed to function.
