POLL: Which religious organization has done a better job at helping the undocumented immigrants?

Tuesday, July 17th, 2012

Recently, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops announced its support for the Evangelical Statement of Principles for legal immigration reform when Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, archbishop of Los Angeles and chairman of USCCB’s Committee on Migration, announced the group’s support not long after the Evangelical Statement was unveiled at a press conference in Washington, D.C.

In my personal opinion, I believe the Catholic religion has stuck it’s neck out the most regarding immigration, but the Mormon church also helped with regard to the Utah Compact.  [On a side note: It is unfortunate that Mitt Romney's anti-immigrant views are giving them a bad image.  Romney is a member of the Mormon Church.]

Now we see how the Catholic Church is divided among themselves based on ethnic lines. (Thank Heavens the Latinos are united to this regard).

It is important to note that Latinos are the fastest growing minority population in the country. In fact, minority births have surpassed whites in the U.S. for the first time in 2011. Does this mean religious leaders will take stronger stances in support of undocumented immigrants?  That has yet to be determined.

From POLITICO:

Obama holds a whopping 70 percent to 20 percent lead over Romney among Hispanic Catholics. But among white Catholics, Romney bests Obama 55-38, Gallup daily tracking polls found.

The white Catholics are divided along levels of religiosity, with devout and moderately religious going for Romney by large margins — 62-32 and 56-34 respectively. The nonreligious favor Obama 54-40.

Mexican-Americans / Latinos / Hispanics are a key rising demographic keeping a watchful eye regarding religious leaders and their views towards the undocumented immigrants.

This brings us to a poll that ought to be given.
