From Mike Stauffer, a candidate running against Sheriff Joe Arpaio and who is now being contacted by special interest groups who have learned he received over 20,000 petition signatures from a broad political spectrum within Arizona.
No Room for Special Interests at MCSOby Mike Stauffer for Maricopa County Sheriff on Sunday, 25 March 2012 at 11:17 ·
Now that we have gathered more than the necessary number of nominating signatures to get on the November ballot, the campaign is hearing from special interest groups, who have requested to meet with me.
It has come to my attention that some of those who requested to meet with us just want to maintain the status quo of political control over the sheriff’s office. I am not interested in maintaining the status quo.
From the beginning of this campaign, in January of 2010, I clearly expressed my philosophy that partisan party politics has no place in law enforcement. As your sheriff, I will be an independent, professional leader, who will be responsible to you, not to shadowy groups or political parties.
And so there is no confusion, I am more than happy to meet with anyone who wishes to discuss the future of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office as it pertains to my candidacy and my law enforcement philosophies. I will not however meet with individuals or groups attempting to further undermine the Office of the Sheriff for personal gain, which appears to be the only agenda of my opponents.
